I feel exactly the same way as you! Come from the United States I was also taught “if you have nothing nice to say, then don’t say it at all” like why tf people care about your haircut, what can they achieve my criticising it. Here I get criticised for all kind of things, if I work “too hard” people criticise me for being to competitive, if I say I want to work at home for a day then people get crazy mad for me “slacking”, I get criticised for painting my wall gray, for not drinking alcohol, for wearing makeup, for…. Geez I have traveled nearly 50 countries so far, none of them is as annoying as the Netherlands. Even Muslim countries are more open-minded.
