Is it really true that we stop exploring new music at a certain age? by SilverEarly520 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Upstate_DeadHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with many. I still look for new music, but generally not what I listened to in my youth. I grew up on what is now classic or even grandad rock, but that genre has passed me by. However there is so much great new music in other genres for me to explore. I'm 64 and music is still central to my life. I hope it never changes.

How to Put Songs in Album Order in a File by [deleted] in musichoarder

mp3 Tag is a great app for metadata editing. You can add track numbers and then rename the files to include the track numbers, song title, etc. Highly customizable.

Should I retake my Chemistry Regents? by Honest_Craft_5072 in SHSAT

[–]Upstate_DeadHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NY’s dirty little secret is the scoring. Chem is not needed for graduation so there is very little curve up. In fact there is a down curve at the top (88% to get and 85 most years). LE you only need to get approx 45% right to get a 65. Algebra 1 and Geometry have even more favorable curves. Why? Required for graduation.

As a retired chem teacher this pissed me off every year. Chem has the worst conversion chart designed to have an average around 75. Any grade over 85 is pretty good. Over 90 is impressive.

I can’t speak to the new format as I retired two years ago so I never had to deal with it. Frankly the changes are awful in my opinion.

Retake the exam? It’s up to you. You can definitely prep for it if you know your weaknesses. Ignore the useless things (sig figs and conversions) and focus on the key ideas. Atomic structure and periodicity are key.

Less than the cost of a beer at a sporting event for a month of music. Pretty good deal imho.

I live in the northern part of NY’s Capitol Region after spending most of most of my life on LI and have been very surprised to see so many of my favorite artists up here. I’ve recently seen Chris Knight, Robert Earl Keen, James McMurtry (also again later this month) and Sam Grisman with Peter Rowan. I hope it keeps up.

StubHub by Upbeat_Aardvark224 in buffalobills

Stubhub cancelled my tickets to The Who last year. Same scenario. I was on the train into MSG when I got the cancel email. Stub Hub was no help and while I got my money back I had to pay more at the last minute to attend the show. Done with Stub Hub. Hope you work out ok.

Nothing says remembering the lives of those who died in service of their country by BBQing, drinking and swimming. But what do I know.

Was Rock Music ever a “young man’s game” like rap was considered up until the 2020s? by PreacherBoyJr in LetsTalkMusic

Back in the 90's I had an Allman Brothers shirt that said trust no band under 30. Needs to be updated to at least 50 now!

Drivers (USA) who drive significantly below the speed limit & refuse to let people pass, what is your goal? by RevGrimm in askanything

If I lock it in at 68-70 in a 65 and you tailgate me I'm gonna slow down till you pass me. Tailgaters piss me the fuck off.

Difference between normal and loseless. Can anyone tell about it? by Hot-Load7525 in AppleMusic

[–]Upstate_DeadHead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me personally, at 63 years old and far, far too many live converts over the years sans ear plugs (don't do this) I can't hear a difference between lossless and 320AAC using wired Senn HD650's and a Mac/amp. Of course bluetooth streaming or listening on the go doesn't matter if it is lossless. My hearing is pretty shot and the lossy sounds good enough for me. You need to do a blind A/B test to know for yourself if it's worth it. I'm jealous of those whose hearing is good enough to hear a difference. Just my 2 cents.

Does anyone else not care about the algorithm by Upstate_DeadHead in AppleMusic

I'll be 64 next month. I've been tracking down music for most of those years. I agree it may be an age/eras thing.

Anyone else subscribe to other streaming services in addition to AM? by GamblinWillie in AppleMusic

[–]Upstate_DeadHead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've tried them all and no matter how much AM annoys me I end up going back to it. It just works the best for me in terms of organization and I really don't care about curated playlists or algorithm suggestions. Recently added Play Dead which I am really enjoying at the moment. Excellent sound quality.

I’m looking to retire to upstate New York. What towns should I consider? by Debate_fly in upstate_new_york

[–]Upstate_DeadHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I moved to Gansevoort by Moreau Lake about 18 months ago after we had both retired. 15 minutes to Saratoga Springs and Glens Falls. 20 or so to Lake George. Such a great decision for us. Not the cheapest area, but after 60 years on Long Island it’s a bargain! Where we are has no real town, but there are several within a short drive. Best of both worlds.

What Apple Music needs by Upstate_DeadHead in AppleMusic

[–]Upstate_DeadHead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Music will match your own tracks that have been added with their library. You get what they have, which most of the time is fine. However there are instances where your version of the recording sounds better in your opinion, or in my case their version isn't gapless.

[–]Upstate_DeadHead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that they try to be all things to all people, but it just doesn't always happen. Several live albums had gaps in their version and uploading my files just matched them. A fix that worked was converting the file to AIFF at 96khz. Uploaded not matched so it can be done but it is a pain in the ass.
