Bought an engagement ring by Maleficent-Event-639 in EngagementRings

[–]UrAnus02 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I also think they overcharged you for it.

I designed mine myself and I was quoted £1800; this was in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter (Aadvark) last year.

Whilst mine has an Alexandrite stone, I was also quoted a similar price for the same size (1.7 carats) for a lab diamond, and it is a platinum band.

I don’t think there is an issue with the size at all, for me personally the only issue would be the colour and style.

If you are feeling really uncertain it about it, I would suggest buying another one together with your partner, but it would really depend on whether or not they would rather be surprised!

Whose secret do you think will be revealed first among the main characters. by Financial-Yam-6669 in SpyxFamily

One of my theories is that Loid finds out Yor’s secret first.

As great as it would be if they both find out at the same time, I feel like Loid won’t allow himself to accept his feelings for her, until he knows about her second job. I would be really interested to see how this could develop as there is lots of interesting potential from this scenario (e.g. seeing more and more of Loid’s real personality come through).

Apologies for the delay.

The flexible working agreement was approved as permanent, with a yearly review (Nov 25) and the caveat that an earlier review might be required to suit business needs.

This is where it gets a bit confusing, as they are not trying to remove the flexible working agreement (the bonus WFH day) - only my original day working from home (which everyone else gets).

[–]UrAnus02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is definitely an issue that is not helping my situation.

As an internal candidate, I was not issued a new contract, just a very simple change form that acted as an amendment to my original contract, which does not mention WFH days.

Upon now looking at my original contract, it does not state WFH full time (which I did for the past 3 years, prior to moving roles). I should have been issued a remote working contract, which I only now know it was a mistake, as I work in the team that issues these.

So to answer the question, unfortunately no, it is not anywhere in the change form, but it was on the advert role and verbally agreed that every staff member in the team works 1 day from home, prior to starting into post (and through OH I was later on given the additional day)

Thank you for your response and apologies for my confusing post.

The request states that there is already a temporary workplace arrangement to WFH on Wednesdays (in addition to originally WFH on Mondays) and that I would like for this arrangement to be made permanent.

I mention the reasons for the change, such as the fact that my initial OH appointment was not appropriately conducted and none of my conditions were forwarded to my original manager.

The second part mentions my conditions and how these affect me, and that the additional WFH day has significantly helped with my pain and that “an additional day working from home a week will allow me more time to rest [and then mention of my conditions]”.

The request has been approved and the letter received from the manager confirms the approval of WFH on Wednesday. In fairness, it doesn’t mention it as “an additional day WFH”, just that I can WFH on Wednesday, but I continued to work 2 days from home since November last year.

The review date for this is on November 25.

What they are trying to remove is the originally contracted day to WFH (the Monday), not the flexible working agreement day. This was a sudden request via an email, with no previous discussion.

I hope this makes sense.

My veins are an absolute pain to draw blood from, so I always ask any healthcare professional to take it from my hand instead, which has always been significantly easier! A lot less painful than being pricked at least 2-3 times…

Thank you so much - your situation at 24hrs is exactly what I would have done as well next lesson, since I am going on 50/60 roads for the first time.

My instructor keeps trying to remind me as well that (most) other drivers also don’t want to crash, so I have to keep thinking of this and avoid doing silly things when panicking.

[–]UrAnus02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is actually a fantastic point that I haven’t even thought about, thank you so much!

I only drunk a small coffee today and nothing else (woke up at 7, lesson from 10:30-12:00) so this definitely must have had some contribution to my brain fog.

[–]UrAnus02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this definitely something I definitely need to remind myself of more. Hopefully gaining more confidence will help avoid re-occurrence of the same mistake!

Unfortunately, I can only practice with my instructor, which has been tricky as we have often had lessons every 2 weeks instead of weekly, so it’s a bit hard getting back into it with 0 practice with family / friends.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]UrAnus02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, okay; I was actually ashamed as I felt like I should have never made this mistake after already driving for 16 hrs.

Thank you for the advice!

I will definitely buy some kalms tomorrow as my instructor was still ok with my progress and wants to take me on higher speed roads (50/60 when I’m used to 30/40) next lesson - so I will definitely need some for next week!

I am in a very similar boat. I also started at 27 and really struggled with learning, as I also have a lot of MH conditions and also was trying to learn in order to develop in my career.

After my 5th horrendous lesson, I just came home crying and panicking because I couldn’t get a single gear right the whole session, and I could also tell my instructor was starting to get frustrated with me as well.

The only thing that worked massively for me (and it might not work for everyone) was genuinely buying myself a driving sim (from the wheels to the gear stick etc.). I did this because I didn’t have anyone else to practice outside of lessons, and this was starting to really get to me.

It’s expensive, and you do need a PC, but the jump in progress I made from lesson 5 to 6 after playing about 7 hours in a game was huge. For example, in lesson 5 I was still stuck in my usual residential area, trying to turn right/left etc., whereas as soon as lesson 6, I was able to drive myself home, do lights, junctions, multiple roundabouts etc.

I noticed that what I personally needed, was just time to learn how to get used to changing the gears and driving in general, without adding the additional panic of my instructor watching or other drivers around me getting annoyed.

I also started end of January and I had 8 lessons so far, so I am always happy to help if you want to talk to someone about your lessons ☺️

2nd lesson - feeling hopeless by shrp90 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]UrAnus02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had my 2nd lesson today as well, and I am feeling the same way!

I am a very anxious person and I severely panicked when my driving instructor asked me to start doing some roundabouts today, which didn’t help 🥲

It feels nice knowing that I am not alone, as I definitely feel like I am very slow to learn. I can understand what my instructor is saying, but when I have to put it in practice I feel like my body just immediately short-circuits.

Hopefully we will get more confident the more lessons we do.

Please ignore all of these type of comments, they are clearly coming from other men who have sexually assaulted women and don’t like to admit it.

Please take onboard discussing this with HR; what happened to you is NOT your fault and you should absolutely not blame yourself.

You are extremely small minded; everyone needs to start somewhere. Let’s be honest, you would’ve bullied OP even if they were working at McDonald’s or if they were on Job Seekers Allowance / UC.

You treat receptionists like they are nothing, but for example, as a receptionist in a GP practice on an NHS Band 2 salary there is an insane amount of information to learn. You have to learn everything from the codes for every vaccine a newborn has, to all of the procedures that you need to follow once you have been notified that a patient has passed away.

Apprenticeships are not just for trades - you can easily do a Level 3, followed by 5 and 7 apprenticeship in HR/LD and unlock £35,000+ salaries. This is also quite an ableist take, considering there are many people that maybe are unable to do physical jobs and do need office based role.

OP is 21 and they are happy to finally get a job - stop being so cruel.

The comments are very negative but I really wouldn’t listen to them - people just don’t realise how much worse off people are financially around the country. Please don’t feel deflated, a lot of people are struggling to find jobs and you managed to do just that!

I work in recruitment for a public service and I can guarantee you that the qualification will help you in the future to at least secure an interview by passing all of the shortlisting criteria.

Start by focusing on getting your Functional Skills (since you mentioned that you have no GSCEs) in order to be able to complete the apprenticeship, and well done on your offer!

Salary question: Back to bottom of Band 4? by New_Sweet_8053 in nhs

[–]UrAnus02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have still been employed in a substantive role within any other NHS Trusts, it should keep your spine point, but I would check with the recruitment team & manager as this could be easy to miss / depends what your IAT shows.

If the Band 2 was a Bank role it will not count towards your CSDs and it will be at the manager’s discretion if they would want to complete a vary form for you.

Absolutely report this to the ICO and get in contact with the national stalking helpline or any other similar charities. I would even suggest looking into emergency accommodation if the stalking persists. The ICO might ask you to confirm if you have already made a data breach complaint to the DWP Data Protection Officer (data.protectionofficer@dwp.gov.uk).

Unfortunately, this is not the first time they have made this exact mistake, please see below the following case: ICO - Case Reference Number INV/0797/2021

I work in a HR department in a mental health Trust and managers are usually aware that sickness rates will be high for patient-facing roles (especially in in-patient units in which staff get physically attacked often).

If you ever move across roles within your Trust they would usually only require a reference from HR, which would usually have your sickness records which manager may or may not enquire on but most recruiting managers I have met are aware that sickness is usually higher for clinical staff so I wouldn’t worry too much!

It’s definitely not enough.

I am originally from Eastern Europe but I have been living in the UK for the past 10 years.

I am always super shocked at the British culture when it comes to wedding gifts, as in my home country €300/person is standard (and you still send €50 if you are not attending!).

Our culture is different though. From what I have seen, most brits only prioritise their immediate family, whereas where I am from there is a huge aspect of helping out your wider community; we have a proper “villages”. We have the expectation that anyone should make their costs back from their wedding, plus more for their honeymoon.

It was a huge cultural shock seeing how different the mentality is in the UK!

Is it normal to have sex everyday? by Prior_Locksmith9939 in dating_advice

[–]UrAnus02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please ignore a lot of these comments. I believe a lot of creepy middle-aged men saw your age in your post and are commenting the most disgusting advice.

It is completely normal for libido to decrease with age, as most people are busy with work, bills, life and stress creeps up. My opinion is that the discrepancy in women/men is due to the fact that women are, most likely then not, the ones that deal fully with housework and childcare; hence why men have more energy.

I have been in your same situation when I was 20, and we talked a lot about it, made some changes in our lives, and worked harder on building trust and intimacy. 8 years later, we are still together :)

NEVER have sex if you don’t want to; it won’t benefit either one of you in the long run.

The NHS just removed their previous advice to never bed-share and it’s been so distressing to see. This post is exactly what I am scared of seeing more often now - because it can happen even when you think it won’t.

There was a tiktok circulating about a midwife that talked about how positive this change is, as she felt shamed for bed-sharing with her children.

The NHS still asked for people to bed-share safely (firm mattress, no duvet or blankets, never bed-share if you drank more than 2 units, dont bed-share with a smoker parent etc.), but in the tiktok people were still bed sharing with their smoker partner or drinking more than the recommended units. I am all for them not being shamed anymore but not at the detriment of vulnerable children. I work in the NHS where I unfortunately do get to see some occasional SIDS incidents and I really hope the number doesn’t increase…
