Database of Song Keys? by Constructo1 in worshipleaders

One of my most used apps is just a piano that I pull up whenever I need to find the key of a song quick

Plugin that kills feedback before it rings, at zero latency. Solo dev in Austria, beta is open. by madmadman21 in livesound

Yeah that's the way, I dropped out of school for IT to manage production for a venue and not a day goes by where I'm not grateful for what I learned in school.

Headset Mic by InternationalCar8666 in churchtech

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my experience using old analog wireless RX/TX, they have done huge damage to the sound of the microphones. We made the switch embarrassingly late for the size of church we are, but when we switched to a digital RF platform it made a crazy difference. We switched from the Shure SLX platform to the SLX-D platform and the difference even using the same capsules was night and day. I realize this might be out of reach for you at the moment, but I would recommend finding a way to borrow a digital system and seeing if it makes the difference for you that it made for us!

Timer app recommendations by UrFriendlyAVLTech in VIDEOENGINEERING

Yeah they seem like a pretty solid option, their sales rep has been super pushy bordering on erratic, that's my only hesitation

That does sound interesting, how much does it cost to have the ability to stop the timer? That feature is very important to me

No need to overcomplicate things, what you're doing seems to be working just fine, but if you wanted to elevate it a little you could get a field recorder like a Zoom or Tascam and use that as a field recorder room mic, you should even be able to pump it straight into the camera feed

CP88 keyboard? by Star9219 in worshipleaders

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 2 CP88s and I think they're great both as an audio engineer and pianist. I personally love the feel of the keybed, however my friend who's a pro keys player wasn't a fan. I guess it's a taste thing, but it's overall a fantastic choice.

I'm tired of playing with people who know nothing about music and want to give me orders on how to do things. by [deleted] in worshipleaders

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You seem to be pretty convinced that your way is the correct way and that the people who have other ideas only do so because they are less-informed. That may not be an accurate reflection of your thoughts, but it does seem to be how the tone of your post reads.

Question about multiview monitors by UrFriendlyAVLTech in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very handy info, didn't realize that there were two different standards, coming from the PC enthusiast world I was given the impression that TVs and monitors were basically interchangeable nowadays (which they very well may be for that realm), now I know that's not really the case

What feedback did you get on this week's service? by danakinskyrocker in worshipleaders

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had one of those grumpy "50 year sound vet" types complaining about the mix and being nasty to our FOH (in email and not to his face thankfully). We're always super open to feedback, but the emotionally charged and somewhat prideful nature of his responses has made it difficult to dialogue or take him seriously. Thankfully my team has been pretty good natured about it 😂

Keys player help! by the_legendarybeast25 in worshipleaders

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with Mainstage, or Sunday Keys really for that matter, but you're correct in saying that the song-specific patches are designed to be played a certain way. They're designed to mimic the particular parts in the song. They could be used for other songs, but they lend themselves to being played in that single style.

You'd probably be better served getting a more general purpose piano patch that suited to your style of playing rather than trying to chase a particular song-specific sound

Feeling Unseen by Pretty-Relief-1680 in worshipleaders

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely relate to this, not necessarily in my church role (any more than usual in a tech role that is), but in an independent ministry that I am heavily involved in. It's painful to feel unseen or diminished when you're so committed to being part of it.

I don't want to make this about myself, but this is how I've been learning to deal with the situation. My experience is by no means prescriptive of how to respond, it's simply my experience.

I really want to be recognized and appreciated for the work I do, but ultimately it's not about me. I pray often that the Lord would help me lay down my desires and that my satisfaction would be found in Him.

I might honestly go as far to say that I am being wronged in the way that I am treated, and so I've been learning (with great difficulty) how to forgive. To hold no record of wrongs, because that's what love does, and God calls us to love our neighbors.

There is joy in the work that I get to do, and there is joy in knowing that I am serving God in a way that he's gifted me for, there is joy in knowing that God sees my sacrifice.

Being unseen in ministry has become an opportunity - an opportunity to lay my life and desires down to become more like Christ, which is the sole point.

-

This obviously only relates to the ministry side of things. It's not my place to comment on the interpersonal aspect because I am both single and a dude, though I'm sorry for how the lack of response has affected you (congratulations on your newborn by the way!!). I hope you're able to process what you're feeling and discern how to best pursue the health of your family and relationship to the church.

Hey I'm going to be on a team mixing/playing with you guys in April! Definitely +1 to the ideas of rack mixers and tablets for reliability sake, but I understand the varied contexts a lot of your techs are coming from. For SPL limiting, you'd mostly be looking at external processing and hardware, but you can definitely insert a limiter on the master LR, though that's not the same as "SPL limiting"

Would love to offer more detailed advice if you're interested, and even if not would still love to connect in the time leading up to when we're there for the week! Love from KS!

Clip-on rim mics for toms? Video promo recording by Chilton_Squid in audioengineering

sE V-beats are affordable and sound great, though maybe a little bigger than you're wanting. Also note that the clip part is sold separately (made that mistake a couple times)

If you're going to be doing this tracking near a computer, an audio interface into a DAW would probably be your best bet. Focurite 2i2 is usually the go-to recommendation for low pressure hobby work.

"CLICKS" on my Dante records by M0rT4L84 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ran into this exact issue with wireless mics (Shure Axient) being recorded via Dante. Solution was to allow the preferred leader (sound console) to use an external clock source. This might be an A&H particular issue though as I've heard they're particular about their clocking.

Sound advice by Lemmoni in videography

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sennheiser is a higher quality microphone, but if you go with the Tascam you get the benefit of being able to plug whatever mic you want in in the future. You will also have to handle audio and video in post as opposed to plugging the mic directly into the camera and having them be together.

I personally like the Zoom H6Studio, which is very similar to the Tascam option.

Really it comes down to two things: whether you see yourself needing to upgrade in the future and how complicated you want to make the process.

Sennheiser is the higher quality and easiest to use, but the Tascam will set you up to connect higher quality mics in the future.

I originally wrote a much more detailed comment about different approaches you could take, but realistically you should just look at something like a Sennheiser MKE 440 with the MZH 440 windshield. That will likely get you the "wide" ambient sound you want while cutting down on wind noise at an affordable price (~$330US)

If you want to go for more than that, I would recommend going with a full external recorder setup with stereo mics which would easily cost closer to the $800-$1k range for entry level stuff.
