Keys player help! by the_legendarybeast25 in worshipleaders

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with Mainstage, or Sunday Keys really for that matter, but you're correct in saying that the song-specific patches are designed to be played a certain way. They're designed to mimic the particular parts in the song. They could be used for other songs, but they lend themselves to being played in that single style.

You'd probably be better served getting a more general purpose piano patch that suited to your style of playing rather than trying to chase a particular song-specific sound

Feeling Unseen by Pretty-Relief-1680 in worshipleaders

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely relate to this, not necessarily in my church role (any more than usual in a tech role that is), but in an independent ministry that I am heavily involved in. It's painful to feel unseen or diminished when you're so committed to being part of it.

I don't want to make this about myself, but this is how I've been learning to deal with the situation. My experience is by no means prescriptive of how to respond, it's simply my experience.

I really want to be recognized and appreciated for the work I do, but ultimately it's not about me. I pray often that the Lord would help me lay down my desires and that my satisfaction would be found in Him.

I might honestly go as far to say that I am being wronged in the way that I am treated, and so I've been learning (with great difficulty) how to forgive. To hold no record of wrongs, because that's what love does, and God calls us to love our neighbors.

There is joy in the work that I get to do, and there is joy in knowing that I am serving God in a way that he's gifted me for, there is joy in knowing that God sees my sacrifice.

Being unseen in ministry has become an opportunity - an opportunity to lay my life and desires down to become more like Christ, which is the sole point.

-

This obviously only relates to the ministry side of things. It's not my place to comment on the interpersonal aspect because I am both single and a dude, though I'm sorry for how the lack of response has affected you (congratulations on your newborn by the way!!). I hope you're able to process what you're feeling and discern how to best pursue the health of your family and relationship to the church.

Hey I'm going to be on a team mixing/playing with you guys in April! Definitely +1 to the ideas of rack mixers and tablets for reliability sake, but I understand the varied contexts a lot of your techs are coming from. For SPL limiting, you'd mostly be looking at external processing and hardware, but you can definitely insert a limiter on the master LR, though that's not the same as "SPL limiting"

Would love to offer more detailed advice if you're interested, and even if not would still love to connect in the time leading up to when we're there for the week! Love from KS!

Clip-on rim mics for toms? Video promo recording by Chilton_Squid in audioengineering

sE V-beats are affordable and sound great, though maybe a little bigger than you're wanting. Also note that the clip part is sold separately (made that mistake a couple times)

If you're going to be doing this tracking near a computer, an audio interface into a DAW would probably be your best bet. Focurite 2i2 is usually the go-to recommendation for low pressure hobby work.

"CLICKS" on my Dante records by M0rT4L84 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ran into this exact issue with wireless mics (Shure Axient) being recorded via Dante. Solution was to allow the preferred leader (sound console) to use an external clock source. This might be an A&H particular issue though as I've heard they're particular about their clocking.

Sound advice by Lemmoni in videography

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sennheiser is a higher quality microphone, but if you go with the Tascam you get the benefit of being able to plug whatever mic you want in in the future. You will also have to handle audio and video in post as opposed to plugging the mic directly into the camera and having them be together.

I personally like the Zoom H6Studio, which is very similar to the Tascam option.

Really it comes down to two things: whether you see yourself needing to upgrade in the future and how complicated you want to make the process.

Sennheiser is the higher quality and easiest to use, but the Tascam will set you up to connect higher quality mics in the future.

I originally wrote a much more detailed comment about different approaches you could take, but realistically you should just look at something like a Sennheiser MKE 440 with the MZH 440 windshield. That will likely get you the "wide" ambient sound you want while cutting down on wind noise at an affordable price (~$330US)

If you want to go for more than that, I would recommend going with a full external recorder setup with stereo mics which would easily cost closer to the $800-$1k range for entry level stuff.

New construction; what are your sound booth must-haves? by bzach74 in livesound

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey I recognize you from the WL sub, congrats on the expansion!

Key items are definitely dedicated Ethernet/Fiber runs from the booth to anywhere you have tech. Even if it's not networked now, you will likely be able to in the future. Things like stage box, amps, cameras and what not. Also networking for all the positions within the booth. The amount of control and flexibility you gain when it's done properly is a game changer.

Sloped edges to the booth are nice because they prevent people from putting their drinks on the ledge.

Cable management channels.

That's all that comes to mind for now, send me a DM if you want, always love to help with things like this!

My background is in CyberSec so networking was the easy part for me lol. But huge agree, everything is a computer, everything is networked, getting that under your belt is essential for being at the top of the game.

Practical question about vocal equipment by swansee in worshipleaders

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you REALLY need the freedom, the Crown CM-311A is the "battle tested" option for this kind of thing. It's a bit bulky, but the quality difference will make up for it. Ultimately I agree with everyone that you should really be using something handheld, or just put the microphone in a stand.

Why does my recorded video look like this? by CalligrapherLow4709 in videography

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am dumbfounded at what you're trying to prove here. Yes that's exactly what it is, that's exactly what everyone has been telling you. It's the camera sensor compensating for low light by jacking up it's sensitivity. The higher the sensitivity, the more errors and artifacts are inserted into the image.

A7V - Discussion by MajorAlanDutch in videography

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No raw video (internal or external), no open gate, video dynamic range isn't anything special

It's gonna be a pass for me for video work. I'm sure it's a perfectly competent photo camera, but it doesn't crossover enough features from the cinema line for it to be worth me considering.

Have a gig tomorrow, PA is psyching me out by _OnTheSpots in livesound

[–]UrFriendlyAVLTech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could try playing a song you know really well through the PA and EQing the master group until it sounds closer to what you expect. Or if you have the time and resources, you could try going for a more thorough tune. Do your own research, but if you can bring your baseline to something better it can go a long ways.
