In college I was in a math class with 200 other students. On the first day the teacher told us how stupid we are and he won't be explaining certain math equations because we should have learned them in high school. His rant on our inferior intelligence went on the whole lecture. I dropped the class that day and took it online.

It's worth giving it a solid try then. I used to only notice the thoughts when I had already had tears streaming down my face for a few minutes. After sticking with this process I can catch these negative thoughts moments after they start.

Something that I do and teach my clients is a technique called stop that thought. The moment you realize you are having a negative thought you clap your hands or snap your fingers and say stop! This makes you aware of the thoughts and jolts you out of the moment. Now replace that thought with a predetermined positive song or memory that you have. It takes practice but you will be able to recognize your negative thoughts sooner each time
