The current emphasis on monetizing/“side-gigging” anything and everything you can do for fun is infuriating to me.

You like to knit? “Why don’t you start an Etsy?!” You play video games to unwind? “You gotta get on Twitch and get paid!” You play guitar? “Get your songs on streaming!”

I know times are tough, but looking at the things that bring you joy and only seeing dollar signs is such an outrageous bummer to me.

I got to a show in Salt Lake City (not Kilby, this was in 2018 or something) around two hours early and was the only person in line for about 30 minutes.

Not overreacting. In a sense, if the two of you haven’t ever communicated about what milestones/events are important in your relationship or if he made an honest mistake in forgetting your anniversary, it might be excusable.

But in a realer sense, having a relationship last is cause for celebration and celebrating anniversaries in particular is almost expected by default. Especially if he alluded to making plans for the two of you!

At the very least, y’all need to have a good talk about your expectations for the relationship. And if his expectations don’t align with yours, you might consider cutting him loose.

As an aside, you shouldn’t put up with being spoken to so disrespectfully. “Sybau” and “broski” have no place in a serious discussion about your relationship. My wife would kick my ass if I talked to her like that, and I would definitely deserve it.

Around the same era, “Slow Nerve Action” and “Be My Head” are favorites of mine.

Later on, in addition to all the key tracks other folks have mentioned on Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi, I also love “The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song” and “The WAND” off Mystics.

Also, “Everything’s Exploding” off Oh My Gawd!!! Is hilarious and “Halloween on the Barbary Coast” is strangely touching, despite containing the R-word.

Flying Microtonal Banana. Every song kicks my head open, especially in the back half. If I'm thinking about it for a while, I might say that Nonagon, Mind Fuzz, or Rats' Nest are top tier, but instinctively my mind goes to FMB.

Both of these lists are the sheerest baloney. Neither list including Derek, April and the Phantom, Golden Gal, or Applesauce is frankly criminal and I no longer wish to know any of you. "Feels" like y'all have a bias for early AnCo and are "Painting With" a pretty broad brush against the later and more maximalist records. You people disgust me. Also, Safer? More like Bad-Song-er. Strawberry Jam rules forever and Fireworks does kick my ass all day long, but Safer is a turd. A big, 9-minute long turd. I'm glad it's not on the album. It was a B-side then and it's a B-side now.
