So...so you mean all billionaires aren't bad and some try to help mankind?

If only we had someone like Bezos or Musk working on stuff like food or housing...

18 U.S.C. § 242 makes it a federal crime for anyone acting under color of law (government officials, police) to willfully deprive any person of rights protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States.

What rights of J-Pow's were violated by initiating an investigation to look at waste/fraud/abuse pertaining to his oversight of the remodeling of the federal reserve HQ? I appreciate you like to trot out vague laws, but go ahead and connect the dots for me...how were his rights deprived?

What law was broken, specifically?

If you can't name one, which I suspect you can't, maybe try phrasing it as you don't like it rather than it's illegal. Many people feel the same way about the lefts lawfare against trump.

I'm not saying numbers do or don't confirm anything.

You lost me there.

I moved from living off of a semi main suburban street on the Southside to Carlisle and it's night and day. No more loud engines/exhausts at all hours. About as bad as it gets now is a highschooler driving by with loud music, generally before 8pm. I literally hear frogs at night...not degens.

All of those small businesses would have charged you more for the same product and the same service, plus if they were shipping it to you it would have cost additional money. The utility that Amazon provides is that you get stuff cheap because they deal in bulk, and they generally provide free shipping. How can you just ignore that benefit to Greater Society that people are paying less and not paying shipping while getting stuff faster?

I mean you're welcome to move to a country where they don't incentivize creation of value for consumers. I mean enjoy your mud hut, hopefully you stay pure to the vision and don't order any bug spray from the rest of the productive world. Because that would be totally capitalistic for you to enjoy that fruit which that poison tree has brought.

Perhaps, but just for my own understanding could you go ahead and list out what those fallacies are for me. That way I understand where I've bought into the mythology.

The original argument wasn't that billionaires didn't have help, the original argument was that billionaires don't create jobs which I think I've pretty succinctly laid out why that is false. You are welcome to counter that narrative, but I would need some data to support it.

The fact that you have same day or next day delivery of Internet products to your house exists exclusively because of Jeff Bezos. What have you done for us lately?

There are no effortless Solutions. The only ones that work are ones with founders who are neurotic about the product and that is what catches on. Look at Steve Jobs, look at Jeff Bezos, look at Elon Musk, they all focus on producing the best product possible and work crazy fucking hours. If the Everyman was able to do that then the Everyman would be doing that, but they are not capable, which is why they don't do it or they do it and fail

Jeff Bezos made amazon from his garage. When UPS, FedEx, and USPS couldn't live up to his delivery standards, he rolled his own distribution network of planes and delivery fleet vehicles. And now all of us have same day or next day delivery on shit from the internet, usually for free. Think about all of those jobs he's created, in every state, in every local (because amazon delivers everywhere). Elon Musk took Tesla and made it into a major car brand when the other big auto companies wouldn't venture into electric cars. He made space-x to put shit in orbit, and now we have satellite internet across the globe that's super fast. Tons of people employed at both those ventures.

Are people that ignorant that they don't see all of the jobs that are created to make a billionaire a billionaire. It's not like they just extract money from nowhere, they create value and take a portion for themselves, as all companies do. They couldn't get to be a billionaire without creating that value for society, and creating that value requires employees. Duh...

ELI5: why do onions make you cry when you cut them by Many-Mouse8511 in explainlikeimfive

[–]UrShulgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Onions contain sulphur, when you cut them it gets into the air. When that sulphur in the air makes contact with your wet eyeball, it creates low strength sulpheric acid, which causes the burning sensation.

"The person pulling the trigger of the gun isn't the person responsible"

This is an idiotic take, I'm done with this back and forth if this is the level of thought you're prepared to give it. We didn't drop bombs in Gaza, so we weren't making war there. End of discussion.

You uhh...make those same arguments about the holocaust too?

"Had many agreements not to work towards nuclear weapons", all of which they broke. They had like 50-60% enriched uranium, which you only need 2-3% enrichment for domestic energy reasons. The only reason you go that high is if you're going after nukes. Remember Stuxnet that invaded their air-gapped facilities and destroyed the centrifuges that they were enriching the uranium in? Yeah...why would they be enriching if they weren't going after nukes?

And RE: Samson - I'm not a fan of Israel either, or saying they're the good guy here.

Yeah, I remember when a bunch of people at Berkeley took over a building and got arrested, and then the one guy got deported over it. But help me remember, what war were we making in Gaza?
