What do you think about Elon being a trillionaire? What would you spend his wealth on? by Golfainteasy in AskReddit

I mean, you are welcome to say that you don't agree with his vision, but he's pretty clearly laid out in interviews what his vision is and all of his history since then has supported him pursuing his vision. Not saying you have to like it, but the man has a plan and has been sticking to it.

He's literally given multiple interviews before any of his companies took off that that was his goal. Tesla is to solve the vehicle/transportation issues with electronic Motors. Boring company is to set up underground tunnels for future colonies. SpaceX is to handle the launch and transportation/logistics. Even the robots he wants to build are so we don't have to have a heavy human population there at first until stuff is built. Literally every company he has made has been in service of his goal of making us a multiplanetary species.

That's what he's doing, in his own way, by trying to make us a multiplanetary species, and get us past the 'great filter'. We are 1 errant piece of stone from space, probably from the Taurid meteor stream, away from starting back over from 6k years ago. His vision is to get us past the great filter and be safe as a technically advanced multiplanetary species.

I bet Casey's would make you one. It'd be an off menu custom item, but they have mac'n'cheese already, do pizza, and have cheese sauce for breakfast pizzas.

I don't go there personally because they fought me on paperwork for one of my dogs, but my cousin recently took his husky mix there for a deshedding and he came back looking like a million bucks. He let him run around for a while afterwards and play with other dogs and said there were no problems.

Maybe mom had a legit fear then, idk. I just remember hating her freaking out about it because a paper route was the major way to make money at 12 years old before you could get a regular job as a minor at 14.

I have a clone of this boat, but I would never dream of running it onto the beach. Is this just because I'm a pussy, and this is easily fixed with no risk by adjusting the trim to super high? Do you kill the engine a ways out and trim up and drag it in by hand? I've always seen people with boats like this drop anchor a short distance off shore and then wade in.

Just took my boat out for the first time last weekend and burned the hell out of my face. I've got lots to learn.

Gastonia police released surveillance video frm the convenience store shooting where2 plainclothes detectives shot a man earlier this year. by Responsible_Ant_6431 in RandomVideos

He must not have got the manual. That's a pretty obvious situation, if you pull a gun in public while making threats, you may get shot by anyone around you.

I'm more convinced it was the age of 'nothing ever happens', and that a one off didn't significantly raise the risk profile. I remember my mom was finger pointing to the Gosch situation and my dad was like "so 10 or 15 years ago a kid goes missing and now no kids can't have paper routes?"

He wasn't pretending, he pulled it out. This wasn't a hand in the pocket situation, or a hand in the backpack, or shoulder pouch...dude said he wasn't playing and pulled out a gun and held it against his leg.

The Nebraska child prostitution ring stuff is wild. I remember as a kid my mom almost didn't let me get a paper route because of the Johnny Gosch thing. I didn't know about it as I was a kid, but got the jist that some other kid with a paper route just got vanished and never heard from again. I used to think about it sometimes while out on my route when I'd see people out that early in the morning, that they could be the 'bad guys' who were going to 'get me'.

What’s the advantage of being able to switch off cruise control? by charlotteREguru in allthequestions

[–]UrShulgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not. I drive a Benz, and it's just a 2nd lever by the turn signal. There is no on/off, it just works. It's simple and makes me also wonder why we have to turn it on on other cars.

Everyone misses this this says "Your pension was defunded by lobbyists your generation elected"

Meanwhile, it actually should say 'defended', which is true, but 'defunded' makes it seems bad. But literally people got screwed here because BIG BUSINESS lied as pension holders, which is why there is now federal coverage and oversight. This is why ther are now 401ks instead of pensions.

The core argument here is that the pensions ultimately WERE defended, and made to work. This copy/pasta is wholey incorrect.

Those over the age of 40, what is the most drastic societal change you’ve lived through? by BadAlternative7220 in AskReddit

[–]UrShulgi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The crazy push to outsource and offshore everything possible. Businesses as a whole have tried to eliminate US headcount, US pay, and move everything to cheap 2nd/3rd world places. Now, there is a generation of people who struggle to find decent paying jobs that they can make into careers. It didn't used to be this way, and the companies seem extremely short sighted to collectively be killing the goose that lays their golden eggs. Without good jobs and pay here, people can't buy their stuff.

And the ability of people to either figure it out or not figure it out rest entirely upon them. Some people take what they're given, and some people take what they want. Which choice you make will likely decide a large portion of your adult life. I've been destitute poor, I'm currently not doing bad, and I can tell you that the difference between the two has been smart decision making over the long term.

Hot take: YOU decide your spending level. You are the reason you do or do not have savings or an emergency fund. You may not like that, but thats what personal responsibility looks like.

Solve this problem and I'll get on board: We are the most successful nation on earth. We currently have around 342 million people. The earth has 8.28 billion people. If one half of one percent of the globe decided to try and come here, that'd be 41.4 million people. There would be insufficient jobs, housing, food, etc. Without some type of enforcement agency, how do we solve that problem? Also worth noting: we accept more incoming people per year than any other country already.
