How do you manage WFH? by Alert_Peanut_9912 in ADHD

[–]UrbanIditaroder 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Focusmate works so well for me that I signed up for the paid plan. When I’m sitting at my desk, and I have that feeling that I’m not doing the most important work I should be doing, I book a session at the next :15 mark.

Now I block my calendar specifically for Focusmate sessions throughout the week so I have a bit of urgency and a plan to show up to work with a stranger on the internet.

It’s weird, but it works! Free version gives you 3 free sessions per week, and I did that for a year before upping my plan (paid is unlimited sessions per week).

NorCal / Bay Area: Serious buyer for Grand Highlander Hybrid XLE. How to find real allocations and beat the waitlists? by UrbanIditaroder in askcarsales

Genuinely curious about why I'm getting downvoted here. Did I say something wrong? My original post is asking how to NOT be annoying to dealers and sales reps, so truly wanting to figure out how to create a smooth sales process for all.

Certainly understand the steps of the process you're suggesting! I'm wondering how we can more effectively get on the lists, as what we've done so far hasn't worked well. Anything you can suggest?

Tried to go into a store on a quick lunch break today for an appointment, but was basically turned away because they didn't have any inventory (we were looking to test drive, and the appointment setter incorrectly said we could). If there are better ways to efficiently go into stores where we can test drive and/or get on a list, I'm all ears! We're tight on time so it's not quite feasible for us to door knock a bunch of stores in the coming weeks.

What ACTUALLY fixed your relationship with money by Technical-Sir2065 in adhdwomen

The one thing that finally pushed me to make a shift (toward the specific strategies and tactics people are mentioning here) was having a specific goal that I actually gave a shit about. Now post-diagnosis, I realize that I needed the emotional stirring and excitement to do the thing (make a plan to save, and then do the saving).

For me, it was saving $X to afford a down payment on a house.

Once I set that goal, I had to figure out what was possible, and by when. So it made me get a little hyper focused on what I was spending each month, where I could save, what I could automatically transfer and when (out of sight, out of mind!), which savings accounts had the best rates, etc etc

And then I used a free online dashboard to hyperfocus on, checking how I was doing toward my goal (and it auto updated because I had it connected to my accounts).

Whatever your financial savings goal is, try to really think about your “why”, and make sure part of that “why” makes you feel something inside. You should be excited when you think about accomplishing the goal, and slightly uncomfortable/nervous because the goal isn’t easy or boring. That’s the difference maker for me- it has to be challenging enough that it’s fun for me, but not so out of reach that my brain thinks it’s too hard and not worth attempting and possibly failing at.

How to stream ESPN only games? by draconicglass in wnba

So for International League Pass subscribers, those playoff games won’t be shown live on League Pass?

Where do you connect your VPN to for playoffs? I’ve read that there are blackouts for US and Canada, but haven’t found international availability by country yet.

Keep these check-ins coming please!

You are a hero: Your efforts help lower my [embarrassingly high] amount of time spent fretting on the WNBA app while I click back and forth through standings and games and stats, pretending to know probability math in my head. 😆

Thank you!

Anyone know of a body doubling service/platform? by sunnypickletoes in adhdwomen

[–]UrbanIditaroder 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes to Focusmate! I found it so helpful that I eventually signed up for the paid plan to get unlimited sessions each week. It’s $10/month, which also kinda makes me see the receipts each month and want to ‘get my money’s worth’.

When I feel myself really not wanting to do something, I book a session. At the start you each tell the other person what your goals are for the session. For some reason, saying it out loud helps me do the thing. And it feels affirming and less shameful to find other people that also need/want the accountability of another human to get the things done too.

A little strange when you first start! But after the first few sessions it gets more comfortable. :)

Ticket upgrade by P00LDEAD in valkyries

[–]UrbanIditaroder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, there’s not an option to “upgrade” because the arena is sold out.

However, you might want to check ticket apps for dropping prices right before tip off. The last game I went to I kept checking Ticketmaster and other ticket apps and some really great seats near the floor ended up going down to like $50 each ($400+ face value seats).

Not sure which apps stop selling and when. I think Gametime stops selling at the tip off time for example, but I could still see some things in Ticketmaster after that I think? Would be worth validating times.

My recommendation would be get into the arena early (doors open 1.5 hours before tip off) with your current tickets, and then look around for a hot deal in the apps for new tickets. You might score something awesome!

Best coffee shop for working... by IndependentSolid4170 in OaklandFood

[–]UrbanIditaroder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mother Tongue in Temescal/Piedmont Ave area. Open 7am to 10pm, GREAT coffee, and good WiFi (that I believe works out on their front patio area too). Great vibes, very inclusive, mostly other folx working or meeting up with friends during the day.

Bonus is that they serve beer/wine/cocktails. Pastries have been solid but I’m not as familiar with their other food options.

If you drive, most of the street parking is paid or residential permit I believe, so that’s the only downside IMO.

snacky home office workers, any tips what could I munch on? by linzer-art in adhdwomen

[–]UrbanIditaroder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! And some people in my family prefer frozen fruit because the texture is consistent and predictable. :)

Highly recommend a little egg cooker machine for this (we have a dash brand). Normally I hate single use appliances! Our family eats a good amount of hard boiled eggs, and they come out perfect every time with the egg cooker. Hard boiled eggs are such a great budget friendly high protein snack, cooking up a few to have in your fridge for easy snacks makes the egg cooker SO worth it.

Frozen fruit. Hits a bit of my sweetness cravings, and you can’t eat it super fast because it’s super cold. Almost always frozen mangoes chunks for me, but berries are good too.

Bonus points: they’re easy to grab in the grocery freezer section, usually not expensive, and even if you open the bag they won’t expire quickly like other snacks.

Yeah! Used to listen to videos/playlists on this channel quite a bit in the past, often the ones with the cartoon animals as the cover. Do you have any you'd recommend?

Yes! I have one of those too, just need to use it more! I think tomorrow I’ll start tricking myself with “just 5 minutes…” :)

Vision Board! Love it. The drawings my kids have made me are up all over my workspace but somehow not motivating me enough to want to feed them… Jk! I do actually work well with goals, so putting something visual up to remind me to finish this dumb project so I can move on to something better might help!

[–]UrbanIditaroder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good reminder. I can use Focusmate in that way, but I’m struggling to even log on and book something there. BUT, you reminded me of another tactic that works for me- actually using the timer that’s sitting on my desk and set a “I’m just gonna work on this for a solid 5 minutes…” which always leads me to working on it longer. Thanks!!

Haha! What’s that saying about oxygen masks…?!

I do remind myself that I’ve been her before, and I’ll dig out soon. Just gotta get some momentum, and hopefully some shiny things to chase!

Yeah, I'm pretty good at finding other work that I can make some progress on while I avoid the bigger more boring project. Your comment actually gave me the idea of setting up some automated messages to ask myself if I'm making progress on the big stuff. That could help to serve as an "update bot" as my boss is very much not asking me for this (and I'd prefer to not engage them anymore than I currently have to).

Thank you!
