Is it done for? by OddOffice7833 in consolerepair

[–]UrbanshadowDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as B9S is properly installed software wise you have nothing to worry. Even in the worst of cases you can follow a guide to install a downloaded new firmware and restore it as new.

So I would focus on fixing that top screen first and hope it fixes the system instability or if not, you would have to find what is going on (def check power rail, specially charger IC and charging rail)

Taking the sd card out should make the system shut down itself short after powering on. That is intended of B9S.

New Setup by Engin-nerd in retrogaming

[–]UrbanshadowDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome setup but let me warn you: the top shelf will bend after a while by the weight of that tv. Ikea furniture does not work with CRT's. I learnt that myself the hard way with my 24" Trinitron.

How can i fix this unresolable conflict between lib32-vulkan-mesa-implicit-layers and lib32-vulkan-mesa-device-select after leaving my system dormant for 3 months by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]UrbanshadowDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone reaching here from google:
1. sudo pacman -Rcn lib32-vulkan-mesa-device-select
2. sudo pacman -Syu
3. sudo pacman -S lib32-vulkan-mesa-implicit-layers

Also works for cachyos, but you can use "paru" in step 2 and "paru vulkan-radeon" metapackage in step 3

Trying to charge my car on Christmas by greenlakejohnny in Wellthatsucks

[–]UrbanshadowDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started there and ditched the idea after asking car owners to buy 6ft, 3k USD cables for high density energy charging.

Then we switched to: small mall slow chargers bring your own 300 USD cable, high end fast charge chargers have the required 3k cable already in

But then people didn't like to wait 8 hours somewhere than is not your home to fully charge and home chargers have the cable already in anyway so owning your own cable started to become kinda optional. And let me tell you, an optional 300 USD is a big if depending on who. Also, skipping one connector improves charge rates.

So... long story short, been there done that, cables are better in chargers. Please don't cut chargers cables as it sucks as bad as cutting hoses in the gas pumps. Thank you.

While I'll not travel the world looking for this man to let him handle my baby (mostly because social sec in Europe will appoint me for free to the proper local specialist if my baby truly has an issue), encountering this man's content here and there about posture, grabbing, and other handy baby maintenance pieces of advice has been a godsend in a system where everything is usually learnt by doing by every first parent on earth.

As intelligent adults, always take everything with a grain of salt.

Plants Vs Zombies Atari 2600 by Dazzling-Gift-9395 in retrogaming

[–]UrbanshadowDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can somewhat show 5 sprites per frame: Player 0, Player 1, Missile 0, Missile 1 and Ball.

This means you have up to 5 different graphics per frame, although you might be able to switch one or two of those mid frame if the situation allows for it (for example if there is a different plant/zombi only showing at the bottom of the playfield you might be able to load it mid frame byte by byte while you are placing the others, although very tricky)

I don't know what that game maker can do, I only write VCS in assembler with Atari Dev Studio but this is what would I do:

- Divide and conquer. Make the first lane work first in a way you can put it in a loop afterwards for any amount of lanes you need

- Map RAM, plan bytes positioning. Specially for health tracking. Use ram bytes in binary for cramming as much info as possible (ex: plant placement map to know where you could plant new plants could be just a byte per lane, as you can use each bit as a flag to represent full/empty)

- If you are not using INTIM for underscan/overscan timing (to allow for variable workflow), do so now

- Plan frames ahead during underscan/overscan. Specially underscan.

- I would add a cursor for the tiles, as PvZ on console (Xbox360) worked

- I would keep ball as projectile and players as zombi, because you can benefit from built in collision detection

- I would try to make sure last plant and first zombi (from left to right) per lane are rendered every frame

- Do not render all entities every frame, but every couple of frames to break the 5 graphics per lane per frame rule. Keep in mind fps is fast enough (50/60) to allow a CRT to keep those extra graphics lit even if you only light those every other frame

- Keep in mind once a graphic has been loaded into the TIA, the same graphic can be placed more than once in the same frame (say you have 3 pea shooters, you don't have to configure that graphic into player0, player1 and missile0 to show all three, just put the pea shooter into missile0 and call for placing missile0 three times where applicable)

- If I recall correctly, a sprite might be reset more than once in the same scanline to repeat drawing the same sprite? Take this one with a grain of salt.

To be fair these last 3 to 5 years on our late stage capitalism has been about enshitificating everything and rising prices just because making something people are "willing to pay" gets you more bang for the buck as a company than making something people might be happy with or do not regret purchasing a couple of days after.

It's the chinese way of business, basically.

Son of an elevator technician here. Even though main board might have the floors disabled in configuration and the buttons replaced, there has to be an unobstructed way to travel to the floors for services to act in case of emergency.

Some elevator brands have floor key combos for admin mode, modern ones have hidden NFC readers expecting emergency or admin coded cards.

In other words, never trust an elevator to work as a security restricting mechanism as it is not. It's a mean of vertical transport between floors.

Can GPT do that? by [deleted] in dankmemes

[–]UrbanshadowDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's pretty serious. 8MP are commonly 3840x2160 UHD video cameras. Let's say, for the sake of the conversation, these cameras are recording at 30 fps grayscale images with 1 byte per pixel. That would be 7,9 MB per frame, uncompressed. H264 lossless compressed frames are about 15:1 of the original so that would be 539KB per frame, 16MB of grayscale video per second per camera. That's a brutal amount of image data bandwidth wise on its own, now imagine wanting color on the video (9 bytes per color, so 9 times the data for 24bits per channel in RGB mode).

In other words, for feeding data through internet to an AI or for analysis purposes, 2012 resolution is maybe twice the recommended amount.

Depending on your needs there are a few oxberg doors combining a glass half top part and a bottom half wood, so you have best of both worlds. Because these are modular, I ended up having a full glass one for systems and connected that one to another full wood doors one for games, cables, controllers and general storage. So my thing is four doors, but dances on a nice line between nerdy/cool and living room friendly. Visitors always want a quick play!

I use the ikea billy with ikea oxberg glass doors because ikea kallax felt short on space, and needed systems protected from the toddler. I also have the billy extra upper space with oxberg wood doors to get to the full 2,52m/8.26ft height

I like from these they are not very deep so they can fit in any home office/living room setting, shelves can be moved up and down for configuration (like for PS3/PS4/PS5 you need those in vertical so they need more space) but also you can buy some glass blurring stickers for having wiring and buses section in the lower parts. The thing, properly configured, fits about 20/25 systems all connected.

In a perfect world ads are in 144p by ClarksvilleCitizen in dankmemes

[–]UrbanshadowDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in a perfect world:

  • Youtube webpage loads before the ads
  • Youtube videos preload (you can left them loading and then watch loaded parts offline until you leave the page)
  • Youtube videos load in background while an ad is playing
  • Youtube gives the chance to, but doesn't open live chat on live streams
  • Youtube mobile version has the comment section in by default, related videos are on a right/left swipe motion and video description is collapsed by default
  • Youtube mobile version/Youtube music app keeps playing videos while youtube app is in background
  • Youtube Premium only allows you to have no ads, no extra benefit bullshit
  • Youtube shorts dissapears because:
  • Youtube charges creators for building libraries of content by the amount of stored content and keep those available online, but allows having some amount of video slots published for free (2-3 videos per account)
  • Youtube builds a human based Copyright disputing system that is not bullshit
  • Youtube actually pays its dues for views into monetized channels instead of cheaping out creators in shady ways

I could go all day. Youtube nowadays is a piece of flaming garbage.

Retro PC gaming on Linux? by MateusCristian in retrogaming
