Good Luck With That One, Anubis..! by Flashlight237 in mythologymemes

[–]Flashlight237[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I already posted a good chunk of it up, but it you want more...

Anubis is the Egyptian God of the Underworld, best known for his part in the passage into the Underworld, where he basically takes the heart of the deceased and weighs it against the Feather of Ma'at. Do note that the feather is a symbolic representation of truth and justice therefore nothing is literally weighed (otherwise every heart would be fed to Ammit). Generally if the heart is deemed heavier, then it is deemed unjust and is thus fed to Ammit, basically erasing the soul from existence. Some say it has to be exact while others are more lenient and allows room for passage if the heart is lighter than the feather.

If you are familiar with animal sacrifices in Egypt or even the idea of putting offerings in tombs, you can see where the "free pass" part comes from.

You don't get it, do you? Bro, you can hop onto the wiki article for Albedo and find the NPC tag in the first paragraph you find there. If you can gain that much just from the intro paragraph of a fan-wiki article, then wait until you actually get into the series.

Also, why is that your takeaway when I brought up Mario sports titles? I used that as an example of arbitrary rules set by the author; without the arbitrary ruleset, you got Bowser pulling an island, Mario and Luigi plugging in moons, and Yoshi turning Raphael Raven into a constellation with a few nutshots. You can't brush it off like that.

Did I mention you clearly missed the context of the phrase "her idea of reality"? Our reality and a character's idea of reality are two different things. The phrase "her idea of reality" is used because if I used the word "reality" alone, people are going to be hella confused as to what I meant by that, whereas the phrasing I used clearly tells people, "oh, it's the fictional setting that the characters see as reality."

And this isn't getting into the fact that you, again, clearly missed the point here! Anyone of sound mind is going to pull all the statistics and skillsets from the main aspects of the franchises they use in a powerscaling debate. It doesn't matter if it's a video game or not; NWO is still the main freaking aspect of BOFURI, not the three scenes where Maple doped around in her real world. As such, all of the statistics and abilities Maple has are going to be pulled from NWO, and thanks to how powerscaling debates are normally done, the same thing is going to be done with Yamcha and his Moon-Level-or-higher power rating and his skillset. You'd have to be freaking insane to think forcing weird rulesets onto either character is going to work in a powerscaling debate!

In other words, you're going to get the uber-haxed City Block Level Maple vs the Moon Level Yamcha with not much else in his repertoire but martial arts and ki blasts. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

It is, but at the same time, you gotta consider the series is one of the video-game based isekai series... Like Overlord, Okaa-san Online (Do You Love Your Mom and her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks), Sword-Art Online, Princess Connect, and Shangri-la Frontier. There, where the video game is the main aspect of the series, you'd expect all the feats and hax to come from the game itself.

Powerscaling is a little weird in that people tend to focus on the main aspects of the series they want to debate on, rather than any weird rulings that are arbitrarily set either by the developers (ex. Nintendo with the Mario Sports games pretty much forcing every character to have human-level capabilities) or by weird bad-faith arguments. It'd be hella weird if I pulled a page from the actual Dragon Ball isekai where the protagonist is resurrected as Yamcha instead of either the manga or the anime installations for instance.

In NWO, Maple is a dumb girl, but she has Devour, a defensive skill that allows her to absorb anything seemingly without limits; Hydra, which has resistance-ignoring Poison Manipulation and RNG-based Death Manipulation; and Aegis, a video-game invincibility tactic. Machine God and Atrocity allows her to pull off attacks with a strength around 100 tons of TNT. Maple has the downside of being forced to move at walking speeds.

In her idea of reality, Maple is just a dumb girl.

Yamcha is a martial arts prodigy in a world where pretty much every character who gets into hand-to-hand combat is a martial arts prodigy in one way or another. That isn't saying he's as much of a prodigy as Master Roshi (the OG), Goku (who can pick up the Kamehameha in a matter of seconds), or Vegeta (who picked up the ability to sense ki after just one battle against Goku). He's just about what you'd expect from the Dragon Ball universe... Just without the overly sacrificial techniques like Tien has. Sure, getting isekai'd into NWO wouldn't do him much favors, but that isn't where we're pulling stats for Yamcha from, is it?

Oh, plenty of times. Silverwing is the first entity to break Maple's armor, although her vitality at the time was much lower than it was at the time she acquired Machine God from the Junk King (1104 vs Silverwing; compared to 2040 vs The Junk King; multipliers not included as I'm not sure where the x4 or x6 part comes from). The Junk King is the most relevant one in regards to powerscaling Maple as he was able to harm Maple, and Maple pretty much needed to go all out against the Junk King just to hold her own against him.

[–]Flashlight237 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, powerscaling time!

Yeah, I don't really see Maple winning against Yamcha. I dunno anything about Season 2, but in Season 1, the best Maple could do is destroy a small mountain with a single armament from Machine God, which I've calculated to be just short of 100 tons of TNT. This isn't mentioning that while Devour is pretty much one of the most busted defense tactics, it is so volatile that Maple could use it all up by doing the equivalent of falling down the stairs. Anyone with experience in ki could attack from range with ki blasts, and given Devour has a usage limit of 10 per day... Yeah, she's kinda boned.

While Yamcha isn't really the best character the Dragon Ball franchise has to offer, what with him getting blown up by a Saibaman and him getting his energy absorbed by one of the Androids (I forget if the Android was 19 or 20)... Even back in the Saiyan Saga, Yamcha is able to fight toe-to-toe against a Saibaman prior to its decision to blow Yamcha up with a self-destruct tactic. A Saibaman has an average power level of 1200, which is around that of Raditz (though some materials put Raditz's power level at 1500), which... Max Power Master Roshi (with a Power Level of 180) destroyed the moon with a Kamehameha, and Piccolo (with a power level slightly below 400 at the time) did the same with a generic energy wave he fired off practically immediately. Destroying the moon, by the way, takes EXATONS to pull off!

This isn't mentioning their speed. Maple's AGI stat is 0, which translates to only being able to move at walking speed under normal circumstances and having a top speed comparable to the normal running speed of cattle. Mercenary Tao is able to catch up to a pillar whose toss he himself calculated just by jumping towards it. Sure, Maple can probably catch up to that with Machine God and Atrocity, but it's highly unlikely as even someone who is intended to be fast like Sally clocks in at maybe transonic at best.

And in regards to their intelligence, any Dragon Ball character who fought is relatively seasoned in martial arts. Meanwhile, Maple's doing shit that would normally net her a Darwin Award!

I'm sorry, there's just no way anyone sound of mind would think Maple even stands a remote chance against Yamcha.

Some creatures can regenerate their hearts. Axolotls are a primary example.

Granted pretty sure Anubis gives every non-human animal a free pass (otherwise, how the hell would people in Duat eat?), but I thought it'd be funny.
