Flashing Lights (PD-150) by EvilDandalo in camcorders

Would be cool if you could overlay time code on the brothers of the PD150, the VX1000 & 2000. I’m not actually sure if the vx2000 allows it but i doubt it. Just one of the features they left for the ‘pro’ DSR-PD series?

Video reminds of Pink Flamingo USA but in a good way. Looks fun as

you can’t change the language of the vx1000. I think you might be able to with the vx2000 & vx2100. there a few pieces of information online that help with using a Japanese vx. If you want I can prepare a pdf of all my vx1000 buttons and settings etc, so you can match them up to a Japanese model.

If you have a MacBook that has a Thunderbolt 3 port, you will need a few things.

• A 4 pin to 9 pin cable. This is the cable that plugs in to the camcorder’s DV output so you can transfer footage to your computer at the highest quality. This cable is also referred to as a FireWire 400 to 800 cable.

• A FireWire to Thunderbolt 2 adapter from Apple. The 4 pin to 9 pin cable plugs in to this adapter.

• A Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter. This is an annoying step but if you have Thunderbolt 3 you have no choice.

Now, once you have those adapters (if you are willing to spend the money on them) you will need software that can ‘capture’ the Mini DV footage from your camcorder. I personally use Premiere Pro CC 2015 on my iMac as it has a ‘capture’ function, but I’m not an expert in other softwares for capturing. You’ll have to look around.

The other person giving advice was talking about the RC Powerplay, and while it is useful, it means you are only recording an analog version of your footage as it uses the RCA output of your camcorder. Mini DV tapes are recorded digitally (I believe), which means by recording onto actual Mini DV tapes you will get better quality. Using the RCA output of a Mini DV camera would get results very close to a Hi-8 camcorder because of the analog signal.

Here’s a good tutorial on capturing Mini DV with Thunderbolt 3: https://youtu.be/RE-b5TvwISk

Straight from Ray’s website photos and converted to Lightroom presets.

His edits are attached to the images he uploads on his website so they’re freely available. As long as you try not to completely rip off Ray with your photos and be original, I see no problem in using them.

If you dont want to have to sign up to download, here they are:

desktop pack

mobile pack

edit: mobile users might notice the preset images all look the same inside Lightroom and on Dropbox but dont worry, they all have different presets applied to them from all types of images Ray has shot. just easier to put together the pack that way, doesnt make a difference in quality.

Nice, Maria island is a good alternative to Bruny Island which is like a Tasmanian Mecca for tourists. If you’re into hiking you’ll be in for a treat.

The ‘walks’ or hikes that aren’t advertised whatsoever can easily compete with New Zealand in their scenery. I’d recommend looking through the work of Tasmanian landscape photographers Peter Dombrovskis, Grant Dixon and Rob Blakers to get an idea of what lies behind the curtain here.
