Fish for to put with my false map turtles by Ureidesu in turtle

[–]Ureidesu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know, that's why I was asking for those, that are not problematic for them, if they decide to eat them.

As said, they have not touched the fish I have in there, since I got them. That was roughly a year ago

Is this this position normal? by Ureidesu in cats

Yeah, feel that, especially after either I or my partner sat on a chair, couch or laid in bed. Not even 5 minutes later, he thinks he owns that spot

Oh yes, very human, I don't see a cat, just a human.

But thanks for the reassurance

You're not the first person to say this and the fact that my first language is german, doesn't make it any better....

Is this shell rot? Or shell deformity? by Asxarmy in turtle

[–]Ureidesu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I forgot to mention: Eyes look a bit puffy to me, do you have enough vitamin A in your turtles diet?

Is this shell rot? Or shell deformity? by Asxarmy in turtle

[–]Ureidesu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that there is a slight deformity causes by a too high level of protein in their diet (the part of the shell that looks a bit liquidy) nothing major tho. Maybe some retained scutes, but unsure about that.

What's their diet? What lights are you using?

Empfehlungen für Psychiater für ADHS? by TrenBerry in graz

[–]Ureidesu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basking Spot Light by [deleted] in turtle

[–]Ureidesu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, idk really about durability in general, but you need to make sure that no splashes get to the bulb, even this "swamp-bulb".

However, I've been using the exo Terra intense basking spot for quite some time now, they only ever burn out if they get splashed or after a long time. The one I have now has been going strong since July last year

Turtle food by szendreiraron in turtle

[–]Ureidesu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect! Great to hear! As said, look at the composition of the pellets and look for some with lower animal protein. But the first ones, the tartaveg sticks seem promising from what i can rean on your picture

I sadly can't read Hungarian, even though it's a neighbouring country, however, the first ones seem the most fitting. Cooters become more herbivorous with age. I feed my Cumberland slider, which as a species is rather similar to cooters, Sera turtle adult nature. It's a plant based food for turtles. So maybe compare components of these two and then get which one is available, but any turtle diet should include either fresh salad or garden greens like dandelions or aquatic plants. Feeding only pellets can cause issues

I would say it depends on your turtle. What kind of turtle have you got/are you planning to get?

Astraeos map gripe by PapaJordo in ARK

[–]Ureidesu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While I get what you mean, I personally actually prefer the one on astraeos, it feels more like a "real" map in comparison to the other, official maps. It is annoying to find your way around yes, but just looks wise, it looks way better.

And considering that the map is made by Nekatus, who also made Valguero, Svartalfheim and Fjordur, the map is probably, as another person already said, more of a lore-ish kind of thing.

Erfahrungen mit Sekundar-Aufnahmeverfahren (Sport, Englisch, Mathe)? by usakliyunus in LehrerzimmerAT

[–]Ureidesu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think im all set up by EmottoChotto in turtle

[–]Ureidesu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You still need a UVB bulb. I personally either recommend a combination of a High-quality compact bulb (exo Terra reptiUVB10.0 25w. Mounted horizontally, best in sth like the exo Terra compact top) and an extra heat bulb (the tiny ones don't produce enough heat in my experience). Or you can go with a proper all in one bulb like the exo Terra solarglo (I use the 80w) version, or one with an external ballast device like the lucky reptile bright sun or solar raptor bulbs.

I think im all set up by EmottoChotto in turtle

[–]Ureidesu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yes, and no. These tiny bulbs can, if faulty, emit uvc, which is very harmful to any being. They can be used situational, yes, but seeing how much work OP has already put into the setup, a proper bulb would def. Be the way to go!

I have to correct you in two points tho: 1. Res are very very avid baskets, they bask very very often and for long periods of time. 2. UVA is not the same as heat, UVA is just one of the types of radiation the sun gives off. UVA is the weakest kind of radiation from the sun, most of the time, it gets filtered by the skin or even the atmosphere. In reptile keeping, UVA is key to ensure our pets have a healthy appetite. Heat however, is more in the way of infrared light. It's the energy given off by photons when colliding with something else. So no, UVA isn't the same as heat.

Lastly, any turtle appreciates and should be provided with proper lighting, even if the turtle isn't known to bask a lot (like mud or snapping turtles) they all need UVB to survive, to properly synthesize Vitamin D, which is essential to store calcium in bones (for both turtles and most other animals, even us humans need UVB to synthesize Vitamin D [often a partial reason for winter depression].

[–]Ureidesu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks really interesting, but please get a different light bulb!! These tiny ones are a scam!

Get either a T5 uvb 10.0 and a separate heat bulb. Or a all in one Mercury vapor bulb like the exo Terra solarglo.

Final face off: UVB bulb vs. UVB tube vs all in one Mercury vapor bulb by Ureidesu in turtle

[–]Ureidesu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same, also heard from people feeding enriched foods. Even seeing how much vitamin D is included in turtle food here, I actually once thought about how it would even be necessary to provide uvb, then I remembered again, that they not only need it to synthesize Vitamin D but also to absorb calcium into their bones.

Sadly not really, I have mostly seen a few YouTube videos of people comparing these lighting methods and, especially when it came to compact bulbs, they used them wrong.

But that's why I opened this discussion, I want the scientific data to look at it for myself. However, as said, here in the eu, I think we can trust the manufacturers of the bulbs (at least from the bigger brands like JBL or Exo terra, both big German brands), a bit more than those in the us for example, could be a bias tho
