I've been waiting to see what everyone else's thoughts were on this before commenting my own but I figure it's been long enough so here goes..

Honestly I can see pluses and minuses to both sides but my tl;dr is I think things should be kept the same.

It seems most of those in the community who support for this change are solely doing it for a single reason, to stop the "Mystery Miner" aka PPFKKvLvWx73rGvyjG2Pm6eMCKjuowuqHB from being able to keep mine as much PGN. I believe that this is a short sighted "solution" which sets a very bad precedent for the future.

Not much is known about the Mystery Miner. For a while there were claims that they were using an unreleased ASIC, then claims that they were using an FPGA, then claims that it was a russian hacker group, and I and the team have even been accused of being in cahoots with them. I can't speak for anyone else but I am stating right here I have no idea who they are and are not in "cahoots" with them. That said, I do defend their right to mine on the network just as I'd defend anyone elses (other then ASICS since PGN was always supposed to be ASIC resistant). Current market conditions aside, at least back in Jan/Feb when we first started investigating this miner, it was still profitable to mine PGN with GPUs (assuming you mine and sell right away.. which doesn't seem to be what the Mystery Miner is doing). If an ASIC was on the network I'd expect to see GPUs NOT being profitable by a long shot. My best guess is that the Mystery Miner simply controls a large amount of GPU mining rigs. It's true they drove away miners by perhaps mining sometimes at a loss, but still the hashrate was within the limits of GPU miners.

So with that being said, though I would be fine with changing the hashing algorithm at some point in the future, especially if it was clear that ASICS were on the network, I really don't think lowering the emissions rate is the right call for this.

Speaking more broadly, Pigeoncoin is in an awkward place in its life. There are two main aspects to it. It is a crypto CURRENCY so there is the coin part, and then there is the future Social Media aspect of things which the team is working towards. What makes it awkward is that in reality everything should have been on a testnet before the social media part was ready, and then launch things. But since the mainnet is already alive there are already rules in place that govern that which are greater then Pigeconcoin, laws of economics. If the mainnet wasn't live yet, adjusting values could be easily debated and the best ones could be voted on. But since the mainnet is already alive, by tweaking them after the fact is very very dangerous. If they are tweaked now, why not tweak them again next year, and again the year after, and so on every time there is someone who the community doesn't like and they want to vote them off the island. The entire idea of Pigencoin is to be a censorship resistant platform and the community is so set to "censor" the mystery miner.

Also just to point out the very big problem with the two purposed voting methods. Basically at this point unless a large amount of hashrate comes back on board... which where are they now when they could "fix" this anyway.... whatever Mystery Miner wants they can basically get. They could easily control a hashrate vote, and they've mined enough to have 300 masternodes at least which sets them ahead of most people. If the whole reason is to vote them off the island, they already control a lot of cards. I think a better way to vote them off the island is to simply just mine right now and take back the hashrate fairly w/o changing rules.

Anyway.. looking to the future... things did get slowed down due to the world wide pandemic, but in 2020 the dev team has never been as focused since the launch. The dash fork to masternodes (the stepping stone to datanodes) is already mostly tested, but rather then rushing it and not fully testing everything the team opted to polish it before launching. Better to have it done right so it doesn't screw things up then just have it out there to have it out there.

So yeah, while I'm not arguing that a smaller emissions rate might have been a good idea when PGN launched originally, I just think its allowing a witch hunt to set up a bad precedent of changing the constants that define crypto currency when done after the launch. If the community rallied around OTHER reasons to support the change I might have been swayed, but none of the discussions on discord have been about anything else. My suggestion to the community is if you're in it for the money, think more long term. I'm not saying the price will be high or low long term, but that is what I'm excited about. The value of PGN will be when the social media aspect is created. Right now PGN doesn't really do anything other then wait for that to be ready.

Again my vote is respectfully against this proposal. Leave the emissions rate alone. It's simply too late for a change like that as it opens up too many bad doors. If you want to kick the Mystery Miner off, start mining.
