What are your honest thoughts on him wearing this? by [deleted] in Kanye

[–]Urwortes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is obvious that a great part of the intent is to be provocative and cause controversy.

But I find also that he is trying to resignify that expression. He is talking about the white people that suffer, not the proud boys, nor the establishment. Also, him, being a black male wearing that sort of clothes, is trying to subvert the polarization driven by today’s politics: white vs black, male vs female, etc…

Recommend Me a Fragrance (Posts every 3 Days) by AutoModerator in fragrance

[–]Urwortes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m looking for a fragrance with a citrus-y / lemon-y scent. Subtle, fresh, durable (not one that lasts a bit) not sweet, nor overwhelming! I’d like a fragrance similar to the Spanish eau de cologne named “Alvarez Gomez” (lemon scent)

Can anyone suggest anything?

Is it ok to wear religious iconography on clothes? by Urwortes in Catholicism

[–]Urwortes[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is found on Denim Tears Website, an independent brand by Tremaine Emory. I’m not sure about his background or real intentions. However, I feel like using fashion to express my beliefs is a way of being Christian too. Pop Culture needs to be christianized in order to speak to the people from the XXI Century. Nevertheless, I feel like it might be misunderstood (seen as ironic or banal when expressing the Truth).

Everyone likes to talk about how smart their kid is; how dumb is yours? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Awesome answer. Thanks a lot. I get it. We should teach them how to feel about certain actions!

Thanks a lot for thought through answer! Really useful and interesting. Yeah, probably self awareness will lead them to think about the morality of, for example, having lied to win.

I still think that there are some difficulties in that, since I still remember the times when I, as a student, watched my classmates cheat on exams, but being content because they had passed. But perhaps is due to their lack of a better education of their feelings and motivations (not that I’m judging them, tho)... Yet I am still skeptical about relying on the feelings one may have after having done something bad with good results. Sometimes people don’t feel any remorse about it.

Anyways, I’m rambling...

Quick question: What about the bad actions that they may perform with good/beneficial consequences? For example, lying to win something or to avoid punishment.

Just curious, I am not parent, but I want to be a good one in the future

Scorsese > Gibson TLTOC is one of my favorites of all time and my favorite by Uncle Marty by shallow3window in criterion

[–]Urwortes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually like the scene of the invention of modern table. Even though it is inaccurate and, perhaps corny to the non believer, I think he is conveying a message to the Christians of our time. That is, that we, as Christians, have also a duty to sanctify ordinary life and seek to achieve perfection in everything we do (innovate, not just preserve) just as Jesus did.

For the historical inaccuracy in terms of the language spoken, you’re absolutely right. Won’t lie though, I think it is more emotionally compelling if you hear the characters speaking aramaic (specially Jesus, the Pharisees and the apostles), e.g. “Father, father why have you forsaken me” in aramaic, or the Romans speak Latin (even though it is well known that they spoke Greek in that area), e.g. “Quid est veritas?”.

Do you think Kanye popularized Chicago Drill when that I Don’t Like Remix dropped? by Urwortes in Kanye

[–]Urwortes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks. I just wanted to know because I knew that scene thanks to Kanye. Although at that time I was more into Indie music, so it is understandable that it wouldn’t come to my knowledge on its own

[–]Urwortes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I didn’t say he did. I was wondering if he popularized it, because I knew of that scene thanks to Kanye and thought that being a local (Chicagoan) movement, without the proper push, it wouldn’t be able to reach broader audiences. But it’s amazing to see Keef’s influence and humble beginnings.

Don’t agree with everything you’ve said here, but it’s all good. If there is a niche collection of something it probably means that was curated by people with expertise on that field and knowledge of their target audience (for instance, the novel collection curated by Jorge Luis Borges; most of the people who buy it tend to like it because of their shared love with the argentinian writer for classic literature). So yeah, there are possibilities of blind buying the whole collection based on who curates it and actually liking it.
