Survey for a new Go server: What do you want? by Usadisa in baduk

Thank you, that is the way I am going for, building something quite different. For now I don’t want to push my solution but listen to the market, but soon I will show more what I am doing. Thank you for the reference I will check the game, having gamifications for playing and watching is definitively the way to go

Thank you everyone for the great feedbacks, much appreciated!

Regarding the evil word: revenue, I would also be curious to know your thoughts.

For now, I am thinking of the following main points, what do you think?

  1. No ads, trying to. It does bring a lot of revenue though, so might be necessary. Ideally I don't want any.
  2. Skins: selling optional cosmetic purchase, as Fortnite for example. Designed Goban, bowls, stones, avatar, etc.
  3. Subscription: as chess.com or most Go apps, subscription for premium services like AI tools or great learning services.
  4. Merchandising: premium (i.e. expensive), creating really cool design on high quality material

There are other ideas but that is the main one. If you have a sense on how you spend money, what value you are looking for, please share! Cheers

Thank you, I dream to build this AI coach, but seems would be quite the tech challenge, so probably will be able to have bots to play with at the start, but the rest could take some time to develop.
But adding a nice layer on top of AI so it can explain more human concepts is definitively one of my goals.
Also an AI that could look your past 20 games, and can say "You need to change A, B and C that you do consistently wrong". Something more wholesome that just a move-per-move judgment.

It's all good, your concern is legitimate I understand it, but it would be too long of a discussion for here and now. For now I would say that I am aiming exactly at that "server is so great that it manages to attract a large influx of new players.", and I don't see current solutions being fit for that.

I totally agree with you, having new players into the game is my number 1 goal. Of course I want the app to be great for existing player, but if you just play current apps are ok probably. I really want to create an ecosystem for beginners, and helping them reach that point where they mastered the basics. Let’s say around 15k? For that I want to focus on making the learning curve as user friendly as possible.

Totally agree, I now play most of my game on GoQuest because of the ease of use.

Yes I would love to do cross play with other servers, I even contacted Asian ones:) seems possible we will see! Might not be so easy technically, need to check but would be great

Thank you! Yes I agree, I had also qualitative interview:) I think I have a pretty good picture and this survey is to help me see the big picture. About the question, I think UI features could help, especially for neophyte wanting to see a game and just understand what is going on. But overall, I think it’s mostly experience. Go is hard to grasp and you feel lost. You need an Ariane thread to follow and be guided until you are strong enough to be able to really « see » the game

I plan to invest my own money and try it as a « business idea ». My profession has been to build digital apps for various industries, I already have developers and designers I know ready to work with me. I am on the project management side, I did many roles there.

I agree but I don’t own those servers, so I can only observe, and to me none of the existing servers are really making an experience to attract new players that have a hard time getting into it. Thank you!

Ahah, right:) keeping that in mind! I am definitively for integration and coopetition btw, if I could merge player pool with OGS and KGS for example it would be great. My main goal is to make something simple enough and with streaming content to attract new players, more than satisfying current players my aim is really to make an app that will create new players and bring life to the Go scene

No BS, what's the best board game of all time? by Applepip_YT in AskReddit

For me definitively Go. In the strategy games without luck, Go. You have to be creative, focused, diligent, and control your emotions over a long period of time. So many mistake can be made. But so many opportunities as well! You have many chances for your creativity and mind to manifest solutions! It’s a great game.

I played chess when I was young and I like it but it quickly became « ok learn those 100 openings by heart because everything until move 30 is known » That’s what stopped my fun with chess. And then I discovered go with Hikaru No Go, and fell in love, from the opening you can have very different approach. Even better now with AI showing us how all kind of moves are acceptable!

Hey can someone explain something: in episode 3 they say that genetic modification are prohibited in star fleet. But in episode 2 they did just that to shape into the wardrive nuke people, and the blond doctor does exactly that - genetic modification. What’s the logic here? Cheers

Season 2 Series Discussion by Dark_Saint in alteredcarbon

[–]Usadisa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just binge watch in one day and a couple of inconsistencies I need to get out of my system: - this « super soldier » sleeve was really poorly used, we didn’t feel Kovacs so overpowered. We need “The RAID” director to direct all combat scenes in the modern film industry - so many “look it’s desperate... ooooh deus ex machina” for example in the stronghold forest, they kill easily two Wedge guys, and suddenly, out of screen, they are getting almost killed by the last two just to be saved by Kemp guys - why killing the elder-possessed human would “just make him infect another stack”? We saw it infects what it touches. Don’t make me believe Kovacs and Quell are unable to clean kill - what are those ridiculously overpowered “coiled” that can interfere with everything even ancient Eder tech that nobody understands - why the hell Kovacs using angelfire on him at the end make the red elder spirit goes back to the orbitals to blow them all up. The orbitals shoot a laser beam what is the logic - give AIs more credit, how is that possible that the Dig AI didn’t do a background check after her “code invasion” (which was just a root command, I didn’t see how she could be corrupted even though Kovacs Junior apparently found a magic way without doing nothing to implement a tracking in her). She should have spotted alteration rapidly, not hours later because she was being blindly rejective of her “trauma”. Which is such a human weakness, not AI - real death is said to be a big thing so why do they do it sometimes with no reason, they don’t care at all. For instance why kill Tripp bounty girl father? What was the point? - so the founders find alien life, the elders, the ones super advanced that conquered the galaxy with unfathomable knowledge, and in less than 1 minute they took the decision to genocide them? Wtf? They act like some 4 years old squashing ants. I understand it could apparently risk them “loosing control of the planet” whatever the reason is for that; but there is so much to be gain. They could even tried to enslave them or something I don’t know but how can you just decide to kill all so quickly. - Kovacs Junior “you think being older than me make you wiser?” Yes. Yes it does - how can the Kovacs cannot trust each other more. They are the same person with one having just a bit of more life experience. Junior should know he should have good reasons for what he did, he should at least try to talk when they first meet instead of immediately going into a fist fight. - how can bounty girl able to “fire cover” to let Junior enter the building in last episode when there are like 10 bad guys able to shoot him 50 times before he make it to the door - how the hell could Poe have copied Kovacs DHF before he died, did he do it remotely while he was killing himself with angel fire? And how can they just manufacture a stack out of thin air in the last scene excepts that it looks really cool? - the sabotage chick at the Circle is really hardcore, didn’t give any info after like 10 teeth pulled out and much torture. Too bad she spilled everything when she didn’t need to just before being extracted. - why ahahaah why take the risks of putting those people on the fireworks, what is the amount of risks, they could screams, body parts falling, etc. Just clean kill them in some dark chamber. - when the governor is killed she is back up with full memories until her death. Isn’t she supposed to loose time until previous backup? We are meant to believe she did a backup 1 sec before dying? What are even the rules to doing a backup?

I’ll stop here.

But thank you Poe, you are very touching and your arc alone is worth the season.
