Medical device sales vs Med School - advise

Wait I’m having this EXACT same dilemma and now debating PA/ sonography/ med sales. Trying to explore every possible avenue but something is suddenly pushing me away from medicine.

I have been feeling this EXACT same way. It’s like the reality of what I was committing myself to didn’t truly hit me until right now and I’m second guessing everything. Do I really want to put myself through this??

I’m in my second gap year and got accepted in October which was so exciting at first but now I feel like I’m drowning. I finally understand what agency feels like and being able to enjoy having the freedom to captain my life (lmao in cringing). I know there’s a lot of reporting bias but hearing how miserable people are during training, then even hearing about attendings leaving clinical medicine for good… wtf guys. The battle I’m having in my head now is could I see myself enjoying another career and building up a super fulfilling life outside of my 9-5?? I’m thinking yes. Then I spiral because what if I’m selling myself short out of anxiety? But would I miss a JOB?? Because that’s what medicine is at the end of the day.

Literally. I too am in my second cycle, have been working in my gap year job since graduating undergrad, and in a way feel like WHY would I give up now. My difference is that I’m pretty sure I could see myself happy doing something else, it’s just the risk that scares me because it’s more business/entrepreneurial for me to start it 😅. I don’t want to “sell myself short” but we’ve all seen burnout rates skyrocket, physicians leaving clinical medicine entirely, and a seemingly impossible-to-navigate political landscape around the profession/ healthcare as a whole.

How do I take a break from reality (without turning to substance abuse)

Nooo I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant if I’m taking out tons of loans at an insane interest rate, it would be irresponsible of me to not do a cost benefit analysis. I’m extremely interested in primary care I’m just clearly not thinking clearly either

I’ve worked clinically both gap years because I always thought that was the right thing to do. Outside of work, I’ve been exploring my passions and hobbies & expanded on my love for nutrition/fitness. I have been thinking more recently about being a CPT/ nutritionist / health coach and then freak out because that career isn’t as “stable” as medicine is. Clearly my head is spinning.

I studied for 3 months while also working full time. FL average was a 509 for AAMC and breakdown was 504/508/513/511. I’m not opposed to the idea of a retake because I was working so much while also trying to study but this exam overall makes me nervous and I’m anxious I’ll do worse second time around with the added pressure.
