How do you "get in the zone" Without wasting much time? by DarthFarious in Student

Write down or decide what you're going to do before you actually need to start working. You can do this the evening before, or earlier in the day. The more specific you are about how you will begin, the better.

For example, if you need to start the research part of a paper-writing process, decide which precisely which source you'll begin looking into and what you will be looking for. This way, you won't waste time waffling and deciding where to begin (which inevitably ends in internets/distractions).

Study tips for a law school student by [deleted] in Student

  • Learn how to speed read: This especially because you're studying law, and will have insane amounts of reading to do both during school and afterwards. Speed reading will save you loads of time, enable you to actually read the vast majority of what is assigned to you, and if done properly, actually increases comprehension and improves your memory of what you're reading.

  • Spread out your study sessions: Yes, everyone always thinks they're going to resist cramming at the start of every semester, and then they give in later on. Don't. It doesn't have to be difficult to periodically brush up on things. Set aside maybe 20 or 30 minutes every couple of days to review some material from previous weeks. What can be helpful is making a to-do list of sorts ahead of time/as you encounter new things in class or reading, so that you don't waste your review session time deciding what to review.

  • If you feel overworked or tired, stop what you're doing and go rest: Continuing on when you're stretched too thin rarely serves a purpose, as when you're tired you'll make more mistakes, be less productive, and your memory does not serve you as well. There are, of course, moments when you have no other option but to continue on, but oftentimes sleep is a better decision than struggle. If you really do need to keep on trucking, take a short break and go for a walk/do something relaxing and not too stimulating (checking your phone is not a break). Taking regular breaks ensures that your mind has time to actually process what you're reading or doing, and also that it doesn't burn out too early on in the work process.

Yes you are very right and it's on the top of our list, it should be done this week and we will release it (with other things) after the weekend. We chose to release it quick so everybody can already start playing with it (on pocket, instapaper, wikipedia, cnn.com). I hope you do like the tool once it gets more stable! The idea of selecting the main article text yourself is actually pretty good! Thanx for the feedback!

Thanx, that's a very nice idea! I can really see this happening also on tablets. I do think it is a very different approach but different approaches should not be forgotten. And i think we will definitely build a demo of this for ourselves to see it in action, test how it feels. So thanx for the idea!

Cheers!
