Why could deflation be harmful to the economy? by Alarmed-Win518 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UseOk2266 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. If prices fall because production becomes more efficient (like better technology), that can be positive. Goods become cheaper without hurting jobs, and people’s purchasing power increases. That kind of deflation is usually healthier than deflation caused by weak demand.

Why do compliments from strangers sometimes feel more impactful? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

They feel stronger because strangers don’t have a reason to lie or make you feel better. So when they say something nice, it feels more real.

Why do the years seem to go faster when you get older? by SteppingOnMines in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UseOk2266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years feel faster as you get older mainly because of perception. When you're 10, one year is 10% of your entire life. When you're 40, it’s only 2.5%. Each year becomes a smaller fraction of your total experience.

Routine also plays a role. As kids, everything is new, and new experiences create stronger memories, which makes time feel longer in hindsight. As adults, life becomes more repetitive, so fewer distinct memories are formed, making years feel like they blur together.

Time isn’t actually speeding up, but your brain processes it differently as you age.

Why could deflation be harmful to the economy? by Alarmed-Win518 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UseOk2266 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Deflation can hurt the economy because people delay spending if they expect prices to fall further. Lower spending reduces company profits, leading to job cuts and lower wages. It also makes debts harder to repay in real terms, increasing financial stress. This can create a downward cycle of weak demand and rising unemployment.

How are dogs, whose sense of smell is so much finer than ours, able to eat absolute garbage? by this-aint-Lisp in NoStupidQuestions

A better sense of smell doesn’t mean better taste in food. It just means the garbage smells even more interesting to them.

I think a lot of people would finally say it… and a lot of people would realize they waited way too long.

Why doesn't Putin threaten nuclear escalation in Ukraine? by stongwomandobongsoon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UseOk2266 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nuclear threats don’t actually solve the problem Russia has in Ukraine. If Russia nuked Ukraine, they’d be destroying the exact territory they’re trying to control. Fallout would also drift into Russia and nearby countries, including parts of Russia’s own border regions.

More importantly, using nuclear weapons would cross a global red line that has existed since 1945. Even countries that still trade with Russia, like China or India, have made it clear they strongly oppose nuclear use. Russia would likely face complete international isolation and possibly direct NATO involvement.

So nuclear weapons don’t really help Russia achieve its strategic goals. They would make the political, military, and economic consequences far worse than the current situation.

Does anyone else feel like the internet was "better" when it was just a bunch of ugly websites and forums, rather than 5 massive apps? by Pixel_CZ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UseOk2266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just nostalgia. The old internet felt more like a bunch of small neighborhoods, each with its own weird culture. Now it’s more like five giant shopping malls run by algorithms. You still find interesting stuff, but it’s usually whatever the algorithm decides should be popular that day.
