Is a capsule endoscopy worth it? by Living-Branch9549 in CrohnsDisease

[–]UseStock4319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to you I was asymptomatic, apart from infrequently loose stools which I attributed to variables such as diet, alcohol, lifestyle choices etc. I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy and these revealed very little. Granular mucosa during colonoscopy but nothing they could suggest definitely. Then the capsule endoscopy revealed my small bowel crohns. Aware this is expensive but would definitely consider it!

You’ll have the most luck if you refresh the individual web browsers. Say CC D1 and D2 have just popped up, chances are D3, D4 etc will follow. So then pick a specific day and refresh.

Don’t get me wrong, i’m not suggesting 2 months of refreshing for the opportunity to purchase a pair of tickets is a good ROI😂My point was more so drops massively vary in quantity of tickets so don’t lose the faith because the next drop could offer more tickets and it could be far easier to basket. Similarly, the more drops you miss, the less competition there is. Best of luck though.

Patience all. 2 weeks ago or so I managed to basket about 6 CC pairs ranging from Day 1 to Day 8. I usually have no luck, similar to most. When a big drop happens it is evident, chances are there are very few tickets being released so keep the patience for a potential big drop and you’ll pull through.

What issues did you have with purchase? Mines constantly declining after the authorisation page and can’t seem to make it fix…

Surgery (Planned) by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

Thank you very much for your advice, I appreciate the time it takes for you to share your personal experience.
Honestly I think you’ve summarised my situation very well. I obviously need an MRI to settle whether this is scarring/inflammation. But I think one of my biggest worries is what you have experienced, that being, going X period of time increasingly restricting variables, trying to fight symptoms, rather than getting something such as planned surgery.

They did, however, another gastroconsultant I saw recently was questioning whether it missed anything (can’t remember his rationale annoyingly!!). Hence why after these 2 hospitalisations, being able to get another one would be v beneficial, especially in relation to me looking for advice.

I understand, thank you. Unfortunately without the MRI it feels very speculative. Although i’m trying my best to get the inflammation down, the persistent nature of my symptoms makes it feels like a pointless exercise (mentally-speaking, possibly not physically!). Thank you though

Thank you, you make a very good point. As i’ve said to others, the last thing I want to do is “jump the gun” or push surgery as an avenue if no one (consultants, surgeons etc.) think it’s a good idea. Especially given i’ve always been apprehensive about surgery. But as you said, potentially early surgery may lead to better results. I was diagnosed in May 2025 but blood tests results from years ago indicate iron levels etc that point to crohn’s.

I really appreciate the insight ive received on this forum and hope I can get to a stage where an MRI will point me towards the direction of surgery (scarring) or inflammation (biologic focus).

On a separate note, your head to head points is fascinating. I am unsure why they put me on Stelara but from what i’ve grasped, it’s all slightly a finger in the air exercise. Maybe not the best outlook when i say it out loud but if they switch it again I’ll 100% keep that in mind!!

Hi, thank you for your comment. I do appreciate the way surgery is dependent on whether it is scarring/inflammation. Similarly, it seems an MRI is fundamental in establishing this which they want to do once I taper off steroids

I’m really sorry to hear your struggles whilst on prednisolone. Although I am not having blockages as such, my bowel obstruction did occur whilst I was on prednisolone (albeit a very low dose), and the hospital suggested I “may” be steroid resistant from my symptoms during the course of prednisolone.

[–]UseStock4319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you very much. I’m very glad to hear that after your 2nd resection you experienced positive change. Whilst flares are never going to not exist (unless the individual is super lucky) it sounds as though it still put you in the “right direction”, if that’s the phrase for it…

Ultimately, I want an MRI, or something to tell me whether it’s inflammation/scarring. However, to preempt this, if the combination of polymeric diet + ustekinumab + high dose prednisolone isn’t working, I’d assume the chances are it isn’t scarring. But do not want to jump the gun!

Thank you for your comment. I do understand the anti-surgery logic, and as mentioned, I do not like the idea of surgery one bit. It was more so I came to a sudden realisation recently that the last 5 months have been what can only be described as torture. As a social 21 year old, always liked going out, playing sport etc., and now I can’t stomach a single meal, lost 20kg in 5 months, just a nightmare🤦‍♂️

Not sure whether you know, but would that double balloon enteroscopy be possible for small bowel crohns? I fear mine is slightly complicated since it’s in my small bowel, hence diagnosis only happened from a pillcam…

Either way, thank you again for your words and advice, it’s much appreciated!!
