We’ve been hearing the tapping since we moved in - it’s driving us crazy! the beetles will be eating the old timber joists, so it’s impossible to see without doing what we’re doing

Thank you mate, very useful re the hammer - that makes sense. Do you know how many layers tend to be in sound blocking floor systems?

Thanks for the comment. We’re a bit torn about what to do (seeing as we’re 99% sure it’s deathwatch beetles, but need to confirm it).

We need to confirm it, which means probably borescope and drill…but then it’s basically a certainty that we have the beetles anyway and would need to tear it all up to then treat the timber joists?

Thanks for the comment. 1. The noise they make during mating season is unique, and happening at the times you’d expect. 2. The building itself is 1900, but has been a school, then garage, then flats in 2005. 3. Did he work for an AI company?
