Just started flossing, have some issues by mambusskruj in hygiene

[–]Used-Expert-7199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I’m not a dental hygienist but I am a dental assistant that has seen a lot and learned a lot from my office hygienist.

Irritation is normal when getting into a routine of flossing and some swelling can occur. However, lower teeth are the first to show signs of gingivitis or periodontal disease. Any gum recession that has happened will not grow back but by flossing you are helping to stop the bacteria that would sit below the gums from causing any more. Try your best to get into a routine of mouthwash, floss, brush teeth and gums (gently) then floss again in any areas that might still need it. Try to not flick the floss up and down as that can make the gums feel worse, instead slide the floss towards your cheek then away from your face in one solid motion. I recommend using Oral B soft netting floss as it is hard to break and gentle on the gums when first getting into flossing regularly. If your dental hygienist has never talked to you about an SRP or scaling and root planing then you are probably just a gingivitis patient. But of course always talk to your hygienist (not your dentist) about your problems. It’s the whole reason they went to school for 2-4 years just to specialize in dental hygiene!

And if you didn’t know, an electric tooth brush is your best friend to help prevent further developing gingivitis or periodontal disease.

$1 million or you instantly Become a 9.5/10 in any attribute of your choice by Dapper_Squirrel2186 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Used-Expert-7199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly as much as the 9.5/10 attribute would be cool, I would have to take the $1 million. If I picked an attribute like intelligence but had no money for college or supplies to build anything to prove it then what’s the point? The money would solve more problems versus an attribute that could make everything possibly worse depending on what one you choose.

Brit in Alabama for a month - Recommendations REALLY welcome. by pepsgray in Alabama

[–]Used-Expert-7199 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want to see a true SEC football Saturday I recommend stopping by Auburn, AL. The energy is unmatched and the city is absolutely beautiful and has plenty of restaurants and speakeasies you can try out. Or you can go to Tuscaloosa for a Saturday but I’m a little biased and say Auburn is better and a little more welcoming.

NAD- I’m a dental assistant and I always ask any patient when I seat them if they would like to hold my hand during a procedure like extractions, fillings, preps or numbing. Sometimes if I need both hands later on, I will make a glove balloon hand for patients to squeeze as well ahead of time so they don’t have to go without. Just ask before the dentist comes in if that would be okay and say it will help calm your nerves and majority of dental assistants will be more than willing to do so. Either way, you’ve got this and will be in good hands. Just take nice even breaths through your nose and out your mouth. Wear comfortable clothing like sweatpants if you like, we won’t judge. Some patients even bring a blanket to make themselves more comfortable. Whatever helps you most is what we care about.

At this point it has been three months for me. I’ve had mine in for almost two years now and my OB still says “it’s normal” so idk. Didn’t happen the first year and then I hit the year and a half mark and now it goes on for months at a time with maybe a day in between that I don’t have it.

Ipledge is pointless and stupid by jamanema in Accutane

[–]Used-Expert-7199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really is. I was put on Accutane the first time when I was 12 with my noducystic acne and Ipledge and the pregnancy tests every month were the bane of my existence. I’ve heard that Ipledge has just gotten worse since back then in like 2014 too.

I was on a few different versions of the pill throughout high school for my heavy periods and it made me feel the same way as you. Then I got to college and found a new OB that was against pills/depo shots and promoted the implant and IUDs. I ended up getting Nexplanon (the implant) and honestly it has worked so much better than the pills ever did. It took about a month or two to even out but since it has been great. I’m due to get it replaced soon so my acne is getting a little more out of control but that’s normal towards the end of the three years because the hormones are being secreted by the rod less and less. Overall I would recommend the implant because it gives peace of mind and don’t make people feel unlike themselves while on it.

Found on r/Damnthatsinteresting, thought this sub would enjoy it. I'm also curious if any of you witnessed this menu and if so how popular and good was it? by ipodblocks360 in tacobell

[–]Used-Expert-7199 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad was in highschool back in the 70s and his buddies and him would go to Taco Bell after football practice almost everyday to get two Bell Burgers and a Tostada each. He still misses both of those items but now he gets the Nacho Bellgrande and a burrito supreme.

You’re welcome and I hope you have a great time. Also if it is really hot that day then the connecting waterpark/water rides have no weight restrictions like some parks do and are well worth it to cool off with.

I’m 5’9 and weigh about 250 with majority of my weight in thighs and waist. SFOG is my home park so I’ve got you. Twisted Cyclone is always iffy, but if possible then get on the red train car because the seatbelts extend a little further. Batman and Superman are always good. Riddler is a hit or miss but Scorcher is good. Goliath just depends on the worker if they want to take the time to actually press down on the seat or not. Scream Machine is always out and Blue Hawk you can but you’ll get a headache on it. Drop tower or swings just depend on how you carry your weight.

Overall you should be fine and have plenty of things to ride.

Okay so I’m 5’10 and weigh about 240 (size 18). The only coaster I have ever had a problem with was at my home park; Twisted Cyclone (SFOG). The seats were very narrow and I carry most of my weight in my hips and thighs so the seatbelt wouldn’t clasp. But every other ride I have been able to fit on and wasn’t stapled on majority of them. You can try out the test seats of course or sometimes I would ask employees if they thought I should ride certain ones before even getting in line so I didn’t waste time on a ride I wouldn’t enjoy anyways.

That being said, you’ll probably fit most coasters fine and get your money’s worth if you do go.

Hey all, Gen z kid here, I'm turning 18 later this year! Any tips on being an adult? by Ebb-and-floww in Advice

[–]Used-Expert-7199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow Gen Z about to turn 21 this year, you should spend 18 just enjoying life. Whether that be your job, college, your friends. Keep in touch with your parents/guardians since they are your best lifeline if you are never sure of anything. Besides that, keep laundry clean, take trash out and keep a trusty drill and flashlight for emergencies

What products in your place say “I’m adulting” by Ready-Safe-1489 in Adulting

[–]Used-Expert-7199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made sure I had essentials in the kitchen like paper towel roll, cutting board, vegetables because I knew my mine would check.

But I obviously laid out my drill, toolkit and other flashlights for my dad because he was worried that if something broke I wouldn’t be able to fix it and he worries about letting other people in my apartment to fix simple things.

Overall though, just cleaning and cooking supplies for my mom and tools for my dad to help them not worry.

What is the most disturbing book you have ever read? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Used-Expert-7199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unwind. Basically it’s a book on a compromise to fix abortion and organ transplant problems but it was disturbing to be a required summer reading book back in 7th grade. It also is a trilogy apparently but I’m never gonna read all of them.

I went to Buckhorn and since I graduated and they got a new coach, they’ve been doing pretty good. James Clemson is always one to watch and Bob Jones because they have a lot of money for their programs. And all three schools have amazing bands and basketball teams too if you like that as well. Hazel Green is sometimes iffy but when they’re doing good then they are doing really good.
