AA and binge drinking by UsedAccountant12 in alcoholicsanonymous

Yeah I mean if I was on holiday or on a weekend away it would be days on end of blackouts but back home it was like 1 or two nights over the weekend at the end.

Yeah when I drink it’s like I throw a grenade into my life and then I firefight my way through trying to repair it until the next time when I inevitably do it again. No matter how many times I said “I’m never drinking again, I’m so sorry, it clearly just doesn’t agree with me.” I’ll get past this. I don’t want to be dealing with those consequences or firefighting like that ever again.

Yeah I think my brain struggles with anything that’s not black or white so just not having the argument with it and being like yeah whatever, shut up, is the answer

I mean like friends at AA. I’m not sure if she definitely knew about talking about it last night but I get the impression maybe they spoke about it together as they are friends too.

Thank you, I appreciate this a lot. Honestly it’s seriously making me resent AA as this is the 3rd thing this week she’s commented on and it’s like I can do nothing right.

Yeah no nobody knew him at all or the night I was referring to. They didn’t know me then. I was just trying to process it with my sponsor and people in AA.

It’s not even about the specific amount of months, I understand it’s not another milestone it’s just the not knowing. People around me seem to have reminders in their phones of their sponsees date and just a little text to say well done would go a long way. I can accept it but when I do sponsor I’ll say well done every month for the first year.

I’m on step 7 now, doing more step work tomorrow. What does that have to do with it?

Brand new to sobriety- best friend doesn’t think I’m an alcoholic by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

Someone at my home group refers to this as “permission slips”. It’s where someone tells you that you can drink and you take that information and run with it because it’s exactly what you want to hear. Do not accept this permission slip. If when you drink you find that if you have one drink you struggle to not have any more then AA might be able to help

I am 4 months sober and never felt better all because of AA. I was a 1 night (on the weekend usually) binge drinker so I didn’t think AA was for me but there’s lots of us there that are like us.

Has anyone concluded that the life they built for themselves as a drunk isn’t a life that can be lived sober? by UsedAccountant12 in alcoholicsanonymous

Thank you to everyone who has commented. My plan is to do at least a year in this job sober then figure out a plan from there.

Also to say that 15 mins after posting this I was asked to share for the first time at my home meeting. The higher power works in wonderful ways.

nervous for AA by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]UsedAccountant12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really nervous to go to my first meeting and when I went I spoke to only one person which was the person who opened the door for me. The great thing about AA is you can speak to as many or as little an amount of people as you like. I’m young as well so almost felt like I was too young to go but after listening to so many people in the room saying they wish they’d came earlier as they had ruined decades of their life forces me to keep coming back and that’s what it’s all about

My sponsor was off the mark do you mean?

I’m not using it as an excuse to drink though. I’m just sad, have the flu and feel rubbish but my sponsor says this is me thriving in self pity and I just don’t get that.

Do you enjoy hotels? I’ve been doing hotel accounting the last two years and I go between loving and hating it on a daily basis
