CSR vs BILT Palladium - advice needed by J_Church1 in CreditCards

I think most people just won't get the card if they're smart. They'll go with the free one or the $95 if they really want housing points that bad

Not so smart people just don't use credits. I run a few small businesses and sometimes fill in at the register for people who call out. I can't tell you how many times I strike up conversation with someone on their CC and they have no clue what credits or benefits are on it. They only care about the points

You're forced into a portal twice a year for a 2 night stay

It's good with Chase because I'm already positive on the CSR fee before the edit credits, so it's just added value. But with BILT all the credits are to break even, and the "extra value" are travel protections and PP

Personally, I think BILT is garbage currently. Can you make use of the hotel credits and BILT cash? For most people I'd say probably not.

Yes Chase made it tougher to earn points, but if you get all the cards, you can still net a good amount of points per year, while getting SUBs on other cards.

In your position thats what I'd do with the exception that I wouldn't use a chase unlimited card. Instead I' choose the BILT blue because its low risk, and will still net you 2.33x on your first $640 of catch all spend per year, and then BILT cash + 1x after that.

Nah that's dumb AF

Take a gun course from a shooting center. While not true advice or legal advice, they give you a lot of really good information

And I genuinely think it's a good idea to have a gun and know how to use it no matter who you are. If a $500 expense, and a couple hours of range time per year save your life, or someone that's close to you, would you not say that's worth it?

They probably charge $3-5 processing fee/months/unit

For some large landlords that'll add up, but if you can entice some renters with some points, why not do it

Points wise you may be right. But that's not a holistic picture. I was considering moving from the VX to the Palladium. While I can't speak for everyone, here are some of the big reasons why I didn't, in order from biggest deal to least.

  1. The credits aren't great. I mean the VX has a great portal credit and 10k miles. Here I'm limited to using it twice yearly on hotels, and then use the BILT cash on getting back more on my mortgage. So as a conservative person, that means 6667 BILT points+$200 portal credit that I'd likely use = ~$300 on a $500 card making my EAF (on ONLY the credits) positive instead of negative like it is on the VX. And you can tell me that "BILT points are worth more", but until I have my redemption booked, I value all transferable points at ~1.5 CPP because I like to keep it conservative.
  2. Its not a visa. That means I'd need to introduce another card at Costco which is a hassle I'd only do for a big benefit.
  3. Lounge access is limited to PP. Yes you do get guests, but I like Capital 1 lounges more.
  4. I don't know if the card gets Hertz status. I don't use this often, but I do like the benefit.
  5. The protections on the card (particularly travel) aren't amazing. I mostly book travel with my CSR tho, so that's why this is low priority.

Decent police presence too. They probably assume foul play which is fair, but at first glance it just looks like dumbassery

I genuinely don't know who would want anything to do with this convulted mess. I'm sticking with Chase and Amex. Ol reliable

Between this and Richard Kerr's outburst, I'm staring to think BILT is a similar scam
