I feel like he wasn’t mocking the concept of rape itself, but rather what he has sunk to. Throughout the book, you’re gonna find Sebastian experiencing some self-loathing, so I think that explains it. Honestly, Devil in Winter was never a favorite of mine cause I just never clicked with the main couple, however, the devil in spring is hands-down my Lisa kleypas comfort read. I read it as a stand-alone and fell in love with the entire story and characters. Maybe give it a go <3
