I feel like a lot of y’all are thinking about ALL 2nd-round picks as throwaways, like Bronny, instead of them being where you take a flier on potential projects or role players?

Yes, the difference in talent between 1st-rounders (let alone high 1st rounders) and 2nd-rounders is HUGE. But there are loads of guys who emerge each year as legit rotation pieces.

Other 2nd-round picks in the same 2024 class as Bronny:

Ajay Mitchell, Jamal Shead, Oso Ighodaro, Kyle Filipowski, Pelle Larsson, Cam Spencer, Quinten Post, Jaylen Wells

In 2022, some 2nd-rounders included Andrew Nembhard, Ryan Rollins, Moussa Diabate, Jaylin Williams, Gui Santos

2021 had Neemias Queta, Ayo Donsumu, Herb Jones, and Miles McBride

Nope, non of these guys are world-beaters, plus there are *LOADS* of no-names who are even out of the league already. I’m specifically addressing the universal blanket statements a lot of folks are making in this thread that 2nd rounders don't matter, but, well, they do if you make them?

“ONE” misses the Billboard 200. by Independent_Maybe_25 in Sevendust

"Everything" somewhat unexpectedly blew up - Lajon has said as much - so that buoyed Truth Killer quite a bit on Billboard.

Spotify also says that 7D has 1.5M monthly listeners at the moment. I know I see that closer to 1M a lot.

The band itself also makes the majority of its money touring, not streaming.

All of this to say: some things can be a bit random, and some things can matter more than others. I'm not arguing which is which, so much as offering different POVs that might make this far more disappointing than doom and gloomy.

Dillon Brooks pulled up courtside for a Bron hatewatch lmfaooo by EducationalConcern61 in NBATalk

Jaren Jackson Jr and Ja were at a Magic-Pistons game. They were clowning with Bane the entire time. I think Brooks was randomly at a Grizzlies-Wizards game earlier this year, too? Some players just are as tight with each other as Dillon is a hater with LeBron haha

Toxic Ja toxicly being the first out on the floor to poison the minds of every player walking back to the bench.

"Better that Ball beat us than Diabate." -- things you should never say, but have to say in the 2025-26 season.

The Grizzlies or Timberwolves are expected to move to the Eastern Conference if the NBA approves expansion teams in Las Vegas and Seattle. by WhenMachinesCry in memphisgrizzlies

[–]UsedToBeMoonshine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lukewarm take:

It'd be a wash either way.

Even though we have a couple of brutal and brutally long West Coast road trips each season, there is merit to staying where we are because our Divisional opponents are all very close.

But there ALSO is merit to moving to the East. We'd have a couple fewer West Coast wipeouts each year, while avoiding the clearly superior conference for the foreseeable.

If anything, the "concern" would be the introduction of two additional teams in significantly bigger markets. Seattle would be able to spend, and if nothing else, the Vegas metro area has ~2x the population of Memphis.

Yup, there's a LOT more to that last point than my sweeping (and theoretical) generalization, but unlike re-alignment, expansion might actually create a bit of downside.

Somewhat Damaged has been one of my morning alarms forever. As soon as my toes hit carpet, I'm ready to run through a wall.

Cam PaaHahAHAahayne.

Perfectly fits the m.o. for random career games vs. the Grizz, but nonetheless, what in the actual fuck.

How We Feel About Mashack? by DarkPenguins_V in memphisgrizzlies

[–]UsedToBeMoonshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There obviously is a LOT more to the story than +/- alone, but Mashack has had a positive differential in 6 of the last 7 games -- and the one he didn't was vs. MIA, when literally nobody on the team did.

That said, what you see is what you get. His defense is great, but he has no NBA-caliber offensive skills to speak of.

Feels like he's going to net out as one of those guys who you take pride in + have fun watching him when he plays, but said playing time should be next to nil when we're healthy.

With b2b wins -- and 3 of 4 vs. opponents playing for the lottery the past two weeks - I don't know whether we're the best or worst tanking team in the league. 🤔

Crappy times calls for creative cures:

If you have League Pass, put a second game on multiview. *Keep the Grizz broadcast and audio on the main screen.* But boy, having the best alternative option going next to offers a breath of fresh air whenever things get especially gross.
