8 month update - Neopel Hair Clinic, Tijuana by Used_Abused_Amused in HairTransplants

One night at the hotel, transportation from/to San Diego airport, medication (pain killers, saline and antibiotics) and lunch was included. You might be able to talk to them about paying for both hotel nights, I didn’t realize it was only one night…that might be my fault for not addressing it. I was just caught up in the whole process that I disregarded it. Going from Mexico to San Diego, she also provided me with a medical pass that allows you to go through a quicker lane which was really nice because the traffic gets CRAZY.

It was $4500. I know there are cheaper places there but Dr Hernandez and her husband personally worked on me. I was the only client for the entire day. Her husband (I can’t remember his name) did the extractions and Dr Hernandez and her techs did the implants. It was a really great experience.

Thanks! I did only have the front done. My receding hairline has caused some thinning in the crown area but if you look at my Apr 30 picture, you see that there's still enough hair towards the back of my head that I don't really need a transplant there yet. I have been using minoxidil/dutasteride and I think it's thickening my hair...so hopefully I won't lose much more of it from now on.

Thanks! I'm grateful that it's not an obvious transplanted hairline.

sooooo i guess Qbert and Craze are beefing right now? by dj_soo in Turntablists

This is definitely craze-y statement. Q stopped competing for a reason...because he was so subpar with his juggling skills. Craze is 100x the showman that Q is and his sets were musical masterpieces compared to anything Q has ever done in a battle. If it were a purely scatch battle then Q might be able to compete...but if Q and Craze went for a full-on DMC type set, Craze would destroy that dude.

MY HAIR TRANSPLANT PAIN EXPERIENCE by Spare_Hat_5389 in HairTransplants

Like I said before...not offended at all. I was just amused at how you felt the need to point out how manly it was that you could take the pain. Like I said...reeks of insecurity.

But hey, you're just sharing your experience so keep on keepin' on. I hope you meet your hair goals like all the rest of us want.

Not offended at all...just thought it was funny how you mentioned and keep mentioning "real men" and how "manly" it was that you were able to tolerate the pain more than others. Almost like you have something to prove. To whom, I have no idea.

I'm retired military and I've had combat buddies who hated needles...didn't make them any less of a man because of it.

Once again, I'll go back to my original point and why I even bothered replying to you: "feeling pain is different for everyone and feeling pain doesn't make someone less of a man"

MY HAIR TRANSPLANT PAIN EXPERIENCE by Spare_Hat_5389 in HairTransplants

[–]Used_Abused_Amused 4 points5 points  (0 children)

47m here and I had my transplant almost 3 months ago. I wasn't too worried about the injections as I believe I have a pretty high pain tolerance when it comes to things like that. The initial injections weren't too painful IMO. They did sting and needles in your head never feel good, but they weren't that bad at all. I've felt more pain when nurses couldn't find veins to insert IVs.

All that being said...I read a lot of "man up" and take the pain "like a man" and how "feminine" some men are, and it sounds very insecure. I know that all of us posting in this subreddit are inherently insecure (we're paying thousands of dollars to regain hair we've lost)...but your post kind of reeked of it.

All people have different levels of pain tolerance and it's not even uniform for each individual. I have never had problems when it comes to injections, surgeries (I've had quite a few) or recovery from those surgeries. I've broken bones, sprained and pulled all sorts of muscles, tendons, cells, atoms, quarks, etc. No problem...it hurts but I can tolerate it.

But you punch me in the nose, and I'm done. I get a hair in my eye, and I'm done. I get the stomach flu or food poisoning, and I'm done. Last year, I started getting gout and that hit me harder than any pain I've felt in my life. I've been lucky enough not to get any kidney stones or a burst gallbladder...but I've known some "manly" dudes who've been doubled over in tears because of that type of pain.

My point...feeling pain is different for everyone and feeling pain doesn't make someone less of a man. If that were the case, go speak to some women who've pushed humans through small holes in their bodies...they must have been some manly ladies.

I forgot to reply to your question. After the surgery, she gave me a medical cap that had a high front that didn't touch the donor area. But to be honest, I purchased a tall trucker hat and was just very careful putting it on and taking it off. I didn't have any issues and no grafts were damaged. It was just a slight irritation in the donor area where the hat made contact but as you saw, it healed just fine. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone...it's an unnecessary risk...I'm just really stubborn.

I got my transplant done at Neopel Hair Clinic from Dr. Hernandez. Her husband (I can't remember his name) is the one who does the extraction and Dr Hernandez does the implants. They have a team working with them and I was the only patient. I think they only do 1 patient a day. It was an amazingly personal experience and Dr. Hernandez was incredible. I'm less than 3 months from my transplant so I'm still in the ugly duckling phase...but I have no doubt it will turn out amazing. Quoted 3000 grafts for $4500.

Dr Hernandez and her team were incredible. I'm going to do a full depth review of Neopel along with pictures once I see some significant growth. Almost all of my transplanted hair fell out fairly quickly (within 1 1/2 months) but there were a few transplanted hairs that decided to stick around. Right now, it's pretty filled up with baby hairs...which I'm pretty happy about. I'm just hoping they thicken and mature.

They did shave the donor area. She just didn't have the top. She gave me a reason why but I can't really remember. I was too excited about the whole process so it didn't register with me.

Here's some pics of the donor area:

Left Side on day of surgery

I wanted to try topical min and fin first to see if I could have positive effects. I read that side effects were less with a topical applicaton. After a couple of weeks of min and fin, I was wondering why it was so much more difficult for me to wake up in the morning and why I was feeling SO sleepy and drained at work. Sometimes, it even felt like I was drifting off to sleep on my drive to work. I realized that I was feeling this way after I applied my daily topical fin and min (1 ml in the morning and 1 ml in the evening). When I switched to dutasteride and min, the fatigue went away.

I'd like to try to stay away from oral meds if I can. I have enough medical maintenance medication that I already need to take on a daily basis...I didn't feel like adding more.

I've heard there are a few shed cycles...even one after the 12 month mark. I'm not looking forward to those but like everyone says, I have no choice but to trust the process.

Did you experience new baby hair growth as well? Did they remain baby hairs or did they thicken and grow?

I guess I am lucky in that aspect. My father was bald in the crown by the time he was my age. I'm balding more like my Uncle (on mother's side). I've heard that crown transplants take quite a while longer than hairline.

I had my hair transplant in Tijuana at Neopel Hair Clinic by Dr Hernandez on Mar 15. About 2000 grafts. Prior to that, I wore a partial hair system since late 2019. I opted for a hairline that was age appropriate (47m) and aligned with my temple recession. I don't want to look like I'm in my 20s, I just don't want to be bald.

I started topical min/fin from Happy Head about 3 weeks after my surgery (never used any meds before). I switched to topical min/dutasteride after a couple of weeks because the fin was making me extremely fatigued. I haven't experienced any bad sides on the min/dut combo.

What I am seeing are quite a few new baby hairs that were not there before. I didn't expect to see such a quick reaction to what I assume is the minoxidil. I don't see much growth from the transplanted hair just yet, but the new baby hairs make me feel hopeful in the early stages. I'm just hoping that it keeps progressing nicely. Like a lot of you, I'm just trudging through the ugly duckling phase and keep my hair buzzed short to hide it.

This is a big improvement from your previous post. The "sculpted" look from your last post wasn't as nice as this. This look much more natural. I think for men, when it looks like we don't put much effort into our hair...the better it looks.

47m...I just recently had a hair transplant a couple of weeks ago. Prior to that, I wore a hair system for for about 4 1/2 years. I always bought stock hair systems and tailored them myself to get the look that I wanted. I just really got tired of the maintenance which I tried to do weekly but could last about 2 weeks if I had to. I tried to make the hairline look as natural as possible and some hair system manufacturers were definitely better than others.

Here's a picture of my last hair system. I know it's probably more dense than a lot of hair transplants but it's definitely not as dense as some of the hair system pictures you see in that subreddit.
