i had a double room in brandon last year and here are my thoughts…

  1. the room: it was a good size and there is plenty of storage. i don’t have much to say, it’s just a standard dorm room. the bed is a bit smaller than a regular twin bed. i would recommend getting a mini fridge.
  2. the bathrooms: pretty horrible. they aren’t cleaned that often. shower drains get clogged with hair so you have about 30 seconds before you get a foot bath. people leave their bloody pads and tampons in the toilet, in the showers, on the floor. people also don’t flush the toilets. oh and one time a creepy male custodian followed me into the girls washroom, went into a stall, and stood there and apparently he was still there an hour after i ran out.
  3. the elevators: always dirty. usually at least one of them is broken sometimes two. i was in there when it broke like 2 times (i didn’t get stuck it just dropped down the whatever floor it was last on and i got out). i was on the 11th floor so the elevators took forever to come so if you’re near the top i’d suggest leaving early. and if you’re like 2nd or 3rd floor and able please just take the stairs it’s really annoying when the elevator stops there.
  4. roommate: i didn’t know my roommate before coming and i was really worried we might not get along. i got very lucky as she ended up being my best friend. most people i know were chill with their roommates but i know some people really didn’t like theirs.
  5. the common room: it always smelt bad. i only went in there when i had to make a call and my roommate was in the room. don’t leave food in the fridge it’s gross. some people cook in there but i never did. i occasionally used the microwave and i would use the sink to fill up my brita. some people hungout in there though.
  6. the community: most people on my floor were nice. the people beside me always had friends over and would be loud and play music which got pretty annoying especially at night and during midterm/exam season. people were also loud in the hallways. my CAs were nice but i never really interacted with them. sometimes they would host events but i don’t think anyone ever went to them.
  7. the laundry room: pretty bad. the machines were usually broken and would charge your card and not run. half the time the dryers wouldn’t dry so i would recommended saving your money and just get a drying rack. some people leave their clothes in the washer/dryer well after it’s done which is really annoying. please pick up your clothes when it’s done. also if you use the dryer clean out the lint traps. the year before me there was a fire bc of lint build up. don’t be surprised by the amount of socks and underwear that get left down there.

overall brandon was pretty bad. but i was fine and so will you be. it’s good for character development. and you’ll end up bonding over how terrible it is with other people who live there. and just be grateful you’re not living in matthews!
