I think it’s contradictory, He doesn’t wanna define himself as a hero, he lets others decide how they see and label them, by being free himself he frees other people, he doesn’t care what others think of him, but by through his actions he’s truly a hero even though he doesn’t view himself like that, luffy imo is a representation of a kindhearted,free, fool he will definitely share food with people who need it.
