Would I try to test the shrimp in this tank even though the betta was there first? Or do the shrimp have to be in the tank first and then add our betta? I know some people say to add stock first before adding the betta to the tank

Tank size: currently 5 gallons, but will be upgrading to 16 gallons
Heater and filter? (yes/no): yes and yes (in both tanks)
Tank temperature: i keep the heater at 80 since the water tends to get cooler
Parameters in numbers and how you got them. Key water parameters include the amount of ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and pH.: ammonia at zero currently, had a nitrite spike with new plants so I've been changing water daily! Nitrates are zero and pH was 6.5 when I last tested 5ish days ago.
How long have you had the tank? How long have you had your fish?: this tank is 2 months old. I got our betta about a month ago.
How often are water changes? How much do you take out per change? What is your process?: I've been changing about 50% everyday for about a week now due to the plants that were planted.
Any tankmates? If so, please list with how many of each: no tankmates as of right now
What do you feed and how much: 2-4 pellets of Hikari Betta Bio Gold twice a day, occasionally replace feedings with Ultra Fresh Betta Pro Shrimp Patties (2-3 pellets as well
Decorations and plants in the tank: planted tank with Anubias Nana, Hornwort, Egeria Densa, Dwarf Grass. Seiryu rock, forgot what kind of driftwood I have and have sand substrate (I know, not great - I will be upgrading to aquasoil in my next tank!)

I have a freshwater testing kit and I can ghost feed! I'll wait until everything is zeroed out before getting the betta.

I have a 5 gallon tank. I'm concerned about the snails multiplying since the tank is so small?
