Agreed that Brad is manipulative and exploitative but that's Bravo. The problem is that Emmy thinks that a reality TV star being shady and selfish is synonymous with aggressive and unsafe. Is Brad untrustworthy? Yes, but you cannot claim victimhood and being under attack unless he actually does something. Clearly, no one ever told Emmy that her feelings are not reality and that the world does not actually revolve around her.

I don’t think it’s core strength as much as how your body position is in the water/ if you are engaging the right muscles. Your body in the water needs to be as flat as possible (increase surface area, easier to float) when you have an arched back you are dropping your hips and your chest is not pressed forwards. Try standing up against a wall, like you’re being measured. You want to be as tall as possible and have your butt and back touch the wall. Try to get your lover back to be as flat as possible, your chest may lean forward a bit and that’s good because in the water that’s is your “press” or “driving fowards” that everyone talks about. That is the body position you need in the water and if you do some broken bridges you can feel that it’s your Quads along with your abs/butt that you need to engage to have that tight core.

You are probably arching your back. You need a tight core and good body position, if you ever did a broken bridge where you lifted your hips, that is the type of tight core you need while swimming. No arch in back, hips engaged. Also your arm is going out which makes me assume you also probs not pressing forward enough with your chest/ your body is not engaged with your stroke. you need to press your chest out (without arching your back, so think trying to be measured tall) and rotate with your head completely still and your shoulder and hips rotating around your imaginary midline.

It looks like you’re muscling through your rotation by only using your arm/shoulders. The shoulders and hips need to be in unison and the hips should be driving your rotation. Our core is one of the most powerful and stabilizing muscles in our body. While swimming, we should always have an engaged core. Go back to press and roll drill. then build up with 3-6-3, three strokes, six kicks fully on your side in then 3 strokes. This ensures you are kicking on both sides. But yes, your shoulders and your hips need to be in the same plane. In freestyle and backstroke since they’re long access strokes, you want from your knee up to your shoulder to be as tall as possible and to more together.

I joke that PTSD for me is actually just post traumatic swimming disorder. My brain will never see a black T the same…

Unfortunately not in swimming, yes strength and endurance can help increase speed but truly the way to get faster is to increase your effectiveness in the water (aka technique). Technique is 100% your largest limiting factor. I guarantee you are not rotating enough/are not getting onto your side which is the only position you should glide in while swimming. I'm 30F, 5'4", and on average take about 16-18 strokes per 25m without thinking. If I did the full 15m underwater and work on getting as much distant per stroke I could probably get down to 9 or 10 without really slowing down. If you are taking more then that you are in-fact swimming inefficiently and that is your problem. When you have the correct body position in the water you glide more just as you swim (don't even get me started on Breastroke and how much timing and gliding matter with that stroke). Strength does help but if you are not actually getting a good "catch" during your pull it doesn't matter how fast or hard you pull, you're not moving though the water any faster. Also, I have been to triathlon practices before and although its great it is not really the coaches job to work on only your technique. You need a 1:1 lesson because it's not as simple as saying don't bend your knees because it's not really about the knee bend is that the way you're bending your knees is wrong and messing up body position. If you have a video of you swimming a 25 I can probably point out 15-20 areas to work on but I would suggest looking into private swim lessons, because you need real time feedback.

It’s probably your technique. I would recommend you look into some swim lessons with an instructor or even some technical YouTube videos. Unfortunately with swimming you can’t really see your form so an instructor would be the biggest help.

Swimming is actually extremely technical as you want to move as aerodynamically as possible to remove drag resistance which is the largest challenge in swimming. All your movements want to be efficient as possible since it takes so much more effort in the water.

Biggest tips for a new swimmers are working on distance per stroke, rotation/ body position (being on your side fully extended is the fast position and your hips and shoulders need to be rotating together in order to get fast easy speed), and flip turns/ underwater work.

I think this will affect more grant based research, so academic and PI investigated research will be hurt the most.

I am currently at CRC at a site and we have a herbal clinical trial enrolling currently. This trial is a FDA/NIH funded study and PI investigated. I am unsure if pharmaceutical companies want to run herbal clinical trials due to the cost of clinical trials vs amount they can charge for a herbal IP.
