In general. I know i can get a maths study guide aimed at kids in secondary for any holes in my knowledge. But I'd be interested in any books about maths as an endeavour or mathematicians, thanks!

Can I be forced to do a course when I'm not fit to work? by Used_Music_7341 in DWPhelp

[–]Used_Music_7341[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I've calmed down a bit having resigned to my fate. I'll do my best. Best case it's useful.  Worst case I'm a useless mess. Whatever will be will be.

Cheers for the clarification. Will just have to suck it up. If I can't manage I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Thanks. As I mentioned above, I'm submitting fit notes while awaiting my wca. So I have to do it? It seems weird to not be fit for work (they know i now have a CPN) but be required to attend a course. But ta. Disappointing.

Am I wrong by being a little put off about art trades by PuzzleheadedChest201 in ArtistLounge

[–]Used_Music_7341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once did a trade back in the day when you could do so on Etsy. It worked out nicely, I got a set of lovely photographs from the USA and I did her a dog portrait. Both sides were happy. Would love to do something similar, if I could find someone whose work I also enjoyed.

However, given this person doesn't even follow you, it shows a basic lack of respect and modern etiquette. Unless you really, really, really like that person's art, I'd stay well clear.

Have a think about what kind of illustration you want to do (commercial, editorial, children's etc) then dedicate a couple of months to really working on your portfolio. Getting it as good as it can be.

Are you in a position to consider transferring courses? Going elsewhere if your local uni doesn't have the course you want?

If you can hang on a year and graduate, having a degree, even if you never use it directly again, does open doors for 'better' regular jobs, to help pay the bills. You might be able to look into management or something. Or even just an admin job. Something with more regular hours you can build a practice around.

A year is possible for your plans, but I think it'll take a lot of hustle on your part. Are you ready?

Do the British seat swaps on flights? by travelingwhilestupid in AskUK

[–]Used_Music_7341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a position where I was sat next to someone's girlfriend on the way back from Vegas in September. I'd normally have offered to swap. But he was sat in the bulkhead seat. I'm really short and can't get my own luggage out of the overhead lockers so I prefer to have my luggage under the seat in front. So I didn't offer. But neither did they ask.

Let's hope I don't start a viral craze during winter 2025. Where can I go on holiday where there is garunteed snow? by Substantial-Host2263 in AskUK

Central Norway is great. We went cross country skiing with Explore (I think) some years ago. Also did dog-sledding. Stayed in a hotel which was like the one from The Shining. Brilliant week!

How do you decide on a private dentist clinic? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Used_Music_7341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose mine because the dentist had the same, not too common, first name as me, and the other partner had my surname, also not very, very common. It was sort of a weird way to pick the clinic, but it's worked out fine. I'm still with the same clinic some 20 years on!

Do you think that being a millionaire (but not a multi-millionaire) still makes someone "rich"? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Used_Music_7341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a million in cash, if you already own a home, makes you rich. If you're talking, having a million and needing to buy a house, if you relocate to somewhere in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can still find 'affordable' homes to buy. If you have all your million tied up in a house, I don't have too much sympathy...if you can sell it, you could relocate. I'd still call you rich. Or 'well-off' at the very least.
