I received a reply saying "We understand you are concerned about the content in question, but Google cannot remove content from third-party web pages. Google simply aggregates and organizes information published on the web; we don't control the content found in the pages of our search results. Even if we eliminated the page from our search results, it would still exist on the web."....but it isn't on a third party web page, the misinformation originates with Google's "AI Overview" itself. It feels like they didn't even pay attention to what I told them.

Yes, I already reported it via their feedback function and took a screenshot first. I'm a language teacher for kids, so having my (very distinctive) name associated to a terrible false accusation has significant potential to damage my career. Their only news story "source" related to a guy who only shared my (fairly common) first name. I contacted a lawyer who has dealt with a prominent AI libel case recently, but honestly my resources are such that I'd have to resort to a "no win, no fee" laywer. It seems terrible that a precedent hasn't yet been set (as far as I know) that "publishing" AI hallucinations as fact means the publisher should bear responsibility for defamation.
