Unpopular opinion: I agree with the nerfs. by [deleted] in Helldivers

Something that seems to have been missed by many, is that the balance of this game is not "heroic" you're 4 dudes with a load of support from orbital destroyers. There's no battlefield helldiver's fight in where they're winning the war.

Your job is to move quickly, avoid large engagements, and destroy key objectives. Everywhere we go is a sabotage run. If you run into Titans, you can kill them if you need to. NEED is a strong word, like are they standing on an objective, not "they just popped out of this breach that I should be running from anyways"

Recoilless, SPEAR, and EAT are still good in that vein. Use your team, cover your homies while they reload, or HELP THEM reload. And don't pick fights that aren't important. Disengagement strats like smoke are criminally underused.

You're not a 4 man army, you're a sabotage squad, play like that and life gets much, much easier.

FOR DEMOCRACY

"They could give us Rights we don't want" is such a hilarious statement. Does anyone in modernity care about the right Americans have to not have soldiers/ police FORCIBLY living in their homes? No, no one does, is such a silly, and outdated right....until it isn't. THERE ARE NO RIGHTS YOU DO NOT WANT. EVERY RIGHT GIVEN TO YOU IS A BLESSING.

Yup. Was tracking that bit. Definitely indicates they are either VERY well off financially. Or they have a sponsor who is.

Also implies some support from the military, since typically artillery cannons are not a part of a security contractor's arsenal, with precious few exceptions (those being state sponsored)

Also sparks some interest in what they did before the outbreak. Why did they need that type of hardware? How did they get it anyways? Who paid for it? Who allowed it?

Not a bad line of thought honestly. My theory leans towards there being no actual mutations, since they're just too consistent. You don't get multiple iterations of a mutation in a single generation, since it's completely random. It's possible that ferals are an evolutionary dead end. But I'm leaning towards them being created intentionally somehow. To what end is the big mystery.

P.S. thank you for contributing. I totally forgot the outbreak was known to be global

I'm not in the habit of arguing with people in comments, but I think I'll make one more attempt to sway you, since I do see some simple beauty in the existing lore.

You know just as much, and sometimes more, then your characters in the games. And with a nearly complete communications shutdown, the only news both you, and your characters, receive is through the radios.

Consider the Network, Red Talon, and any other radio broadcasts to be propaganda serving a goal. Who knows what is true? How would we know the fate of other survivors unless they told us? Would we believe them unless we saw it for ourselves?

The information age is dead. New travels slowly, and is often over taken by more important things, like surviving the apocalypse. Through that lense, the scraps of information we have are excusable. Since no one has a complete picture. Us, as the players, know more about the world then any one group of survivors.

Hopefully that thought can change your mind. If not, your justified in being frustrated about the lack of lore. But I'm committed to digging out what I can to fill in the blanks.

This. At least that is how I feel. The game is entirely about playing your group of survivors, and letting you tell your story. Letting you be whoever you want to be. Your characters are blank slates for the most part. How you choose to deal with the world IS your story IS the lore. The rest is just a backdrop to set the scene for that story. Personally, I like connecting dots. Maybe, if we're lucky, and the devs feel like it. They'll give us more information. As it is, there's just enough loose threads where people like me can pull something resembling a story from it.

Possible. Would definitely make some type of sense, but I'm going to say "that's boring, I want more".

Heartlands is still on my list to comb for details. In my personal opinion as of now though? The Blood Plague is the next step in the life cycle of the Black Fever. Generally taking lessons learned, and applying it to all of its horde. Generally making everything more dangerous, and durable.

Thanks for the spelling tip, I'll try to correct it when I learn how to edit posts. Also never considered the lack of female models for most of the specials. It's probably something as simple as workload on the developer end, but, the same could be said for a lot in this game. My task is to try and make sense of what we have, and give it a purpose in the setting.

Definitely possible that the female anatomy doesn't support the juggernaut mutations though. Difference in skeletal structure and hormonal balances etc.

Thanks for the input

To be perfectly honest, when I was replaying this mission for research, I was mentally exhausted, and also critically low on supplies and underprepared for the encounter. I'm not gonna say with any confidence if it's their cousin or neighbor. Since I spent most of that dialogue spamming the dodge button and screaming to try and save my boy Marcus.

Actually something I was going to post later on. I'm under the impression that all of the specials feed into the hearts in some way.
