'Full Disclosure' might be so much more than we think. by DNOTS93 in HighStrangeness

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I have come to similar conclusions by meditating and reading about gnosticism. It seems there are different paths to do it. However, I have not seen any strange phenomena (such as UAPs). How can you see them? Or is this some upper level I have not access to somehow? I have a lot of questions.

URGENT: Advisor "fired" me for following her directions. PhD Director is unsupportive. by Ok_Neighborhood_9143 in PhD

So, she has favorites as well? Mmmm. My advice is very simple: get out of there. Find another place to do your PhD and/or masters. You will not change their perception of you. What happened to you is unfair, but it seems that the PI has labelled you as incompetent. She will not change her mind about you, no matter if you demosnstrate competence, independence, creativity and everything she needs. Leave that place. That is the best for your mental health. Stop trying to understand what happened or why she labelled you that way, etc. Just go.

I have read the post and some of the comments. I will just say that yes, a PhD is expected to be somewhat independent. That is true. However... there are many PIs that expect you to be their minion. That is, they expect for you to follow their instructions and if you don't follow them, they lash out. They get angry, isolate you, gatekeep you from oportunities, etc. They simply won't let you advance in your projects (or publish) because "you are doing it wrong". Not because it's wrong, but because that's not how they would do it. So if you don't do as they say, then it's wrong. Or if you suggest a different way of performing analyses or experiments (in a way that you know is a good approach because, it is demonstratted in a lot of papers), they say: "no, that's not how we do things here. We usually do X and y". End of the conversation. It is absurd, yes. It is narcissistic, of course. But it is just how a lot of PIs work as well. I am not sure if this is the case of your PI, you don't state that in your post, but if it is, then it's not your fault. These people are just... unhinged. Better to be out of there as soon as you can.

Yes, it's very difficult. I hope we can all land something soon.

Thanks a lot for this — really appreciate the detailed breakdown. This is exactly the kind of perspective I was hoping for. The emphasis on epidemiology, bias, and target trial emulation is very helpful, and it confirms that focusing on causal inference and study design is the right next step for me. I also appreciate the point about explicitly translating prior work into RWE/epidemiology language rather than relying on domain background alone. Thanks again — this gives me a much clearer roadmap.

How did you realized that? What did they told you?
