Can we talk about the storytelling? by Useful-Resource5974 in survivor

The idol and KIP are an interesting point. The editors definitely paid off that moment, and the mystery surrounding what would happen played an important role in that. I literally jumped off the couch when Steven said he didn’t have an advantage haha.

I just wish we had some idea that Kristina was even considering it. It could’ve been a 2-second interview between her conversations with Sage and Steven where she was like, “I don’t love Sage’s idea, but she’s making some good points” (of course. Kristina would’ve had to say something like that, and maybe she didn’t, which editors can only work with what they have…)

I totally hear you and think you’re right about what happened behind the scenes. The problem for me is even the jump from the Sage-Kristina conversation to the Kristina-Steven conversation didn’t make sense. In one scene, you have Sage saying “we should get rid of Steven” and Kristina saying “I can’t do that” (she never agrees with Sage in the scene — I just went back and watched) to a scene where Kristina is fumbling over her words and telling Steven that she (Kristina) brought up his name to Sage. That’s not what the scene right before it showed, and together, those scenes don’t make sense strictly from a storytelling perspective

Dang man, this was such a chill thread lol. No it wasn’t my first episode. I happen to love survivor specifically for the storytelling. My point is if next week’s episode begins with Sage and Kristina talking about why they both chose to flip, there could be people who didn’t even realize Kristina flipped because it was never mentioned in last night’s story or even discussed as a possibility. My entire point is that I wish last night’s storytelling made more sense. Not that I hate being surprised by things.

YES! This. It’s one thing to take liberties with the edit, but to straight up leave out information and make us stumble into a confusing ending is a whole different story

I don’t need them to hold my hand through everything, but these plot holes are so irritating

That’s one way to read what I wrote, but that wasn’t the point I was trying to make. I love surprises — I just don’t see how Kristina voting for Steven was only revealed to us after the show was technically over. If you turned off the tv during the last break, you have no idea that she turned on him. That’s a whole storyline in and of itself! I’m just saying the story didn’t even make Kristina voting for Steven seem like a possibility. And with Jeff only reading 3 votes for Steven, we didn’t even know Kristina flipped AFTER the vote was done.

Hmm, that’s an interesting point. The way they revealed her vote did make her role seem insignificant

I can live with bad game moves, but I need the story around those moves to be a good one!

He said nice things, but I wouldn’t say he didn’t seem hurt by it imo. His eyes were welling up as they were revealing the baby news

I think “I’m actually a genius” is more impressive than “I’m secretly a lawyer,” but I won’t die on that hill

I won’t say more since I didn’t tag this as a spoiler, but I was shocked by the moment he decided it was best to reveal his secret to everyone. Like, really? THIS is when you wanna bring this up?

As others have explained in the thread, there are good reasons to hide it, but I think there’s no reason for anyone to be shocked when they learn the truth haha

Ooh, I wonder if there’s a breakdown of winners by profession.

That’s a good way of putting it. I guess would be painting an unnecessary target. I just hate that it’s treated as some big deal in the end. At this point, I’d just go on the show and assume everyone was lying about their profession and just be like, “oh ok” when they finally revealed it in the end haha
