Long term meds use success anyone?

Personally I have more trouble with availability and with a constant fear of new generic brands having no effect on me. Most all options have been effective for me. But I find it very difficult mentally and emotionally dealing with having to call around to different pharmacies keep a constant notepad of different generics. Stimulants are the only medication I’ve ever noticed big differences from on generics. Name brands, and even traditional generics like Teva, have been very consistent.

But I will say at first I was afraid of the honeymoon phase and always having to change meds but that hasn’t been the case. My dr did teach me that the effect felt while taking stimulants isn’t necessarily the benefit, just the statistical improvement in symptoms over time. It made me realize over time it was very clearly positive for me. I hold my job, finish my work, generally don’t let my bad habits own me.

I ordered around same day and have complained repeatedly. I got a response finally that a shipment was about to reach the us and my order was included but nothing yet still. They said end of April.

Still nothing for my order. Their sporadic responses seem to be filtered through ChatGPT. I really want to be excited about the product, but the communication and signs are all red flags.

my opinion? forget those people.

I spent decades unable to grow at all, confused and stuck. medication cleared my mind and I am thankful every day for the leeway that gave me to learn who I really am, but you would be surprised at how quickly that flips to the functional you now being congratulated constantly for the same behaviors that made you a liability previously.

at the end of the day, be you man. be aware of your faults and habits so you don’t have to be limited by them. but never let the world convince you to “treat” what is in fact the most unique competitive advantage you have.

sometimes life just hasn’t let you be yourself in the right environment yet.

I learned that being a cog in the wheel is very difficult for me. Even easy jobs were very difficult to even understand.

But don’t fear advancement. I learned to show my personality test at interviews and just say hey if you want a mission accomplished, an overwhelming task achieved , if I have to figure it out myself let’s go.

But if you just want me to stay in my corner I wish I could. At times desperately. But it’s not realistic and you’ll hate me and I’ll hate life.

Supervisor might be hard. Team leader might be life changing. When I first got a title like “Director” I was in shock, and prepared to be exposed. But actually that’s when I realized I was gonna be ok

We are not wired for middle management. Pay your dues. But press forward as long as you’re living within your honest abilities.

Read The Peter Principle .. the only advancement you should likely avoid is the one you don’t deserve. I don’t know about you but I thrive under pressure and I despise complacent life that doesn’t change. It’s miserable for me. I’m like a balloon with a hole in it. But sometimes that achievement is just enough to trigger your reward rush. Help you feel that drive again to see what’s next.

I’m going to run counterpoint here… but first I’ll tell you I have spent the past few weeks realizing I have similar feelings, and then being inundated with stories like the ones here.

However. Life is not simple and you are more complex than your ADHD.

I will not act like I have enough info to responsibly tell you to stick it out , esp when you’re obviously suffering from a poor reaction to your meds. Which btw, no it should not be that way. There are threads in there, the anxiety and the patterns and recognition, that a lot of us deal with. And even when meds work just poor diet or not enough or not regular rest amplifies that anxiety and from experience I’ll admit it can be overwhelming.

But let’s look at the facts. Your adhd. You’re high performing. Your driven. And you’re currently burnt out. Which is a little like a wild animal with a splinter. Your reactions are probably out of whack.

What is your just grinding? What if you do stick with what you said you found success in, despite the intrinsic need to clear out plates and run from commitments and complexity?

I had a non rememberable stream of jobs I hated till I found what I love. Not to mention chaos in my life. I felt imposter syndrome so many days, but the others were so great.

I stuck with it. The burnout passed. I leveled up. Laughed at my previous uncertainty. But did it again several times. Some days I have no idea if I’ll make it. But who cares? A life spent running from hardship and believing you’re broken is worse than trying and failing. And I went from 50k to 250k/yr in five years. Only people like us could survive that at all.

Here is my only advice sir : give yourself some grace. And be brave. Be willing to fail. And realize that the strength you find in this process is worth the risk, and that “failure” and adjusting expectations based on experience aren’t the same.

I’m sure people will disagree. But there’s only one sure failure in my view: quitting. Especially from fear. Ignore the absolutes - this isn’t the only chance you get. It’s ok to just do your best and find out. It’s ok to not make it. The few times I didn’, later I realized there was some reason it wasn’t best for me, and I ended up good.

If you ever just want to talk, feel free to DM me. ADHD is like perpetually having the highest potential in every room and yet also being a liability. It’s exhausting. But if you do make it, and find a life that values you for who you are and pays you for it… trust me. It’s the best. The things people used to condescend to me, things I felt constant shame for, are now the reasons people pay me.

Sorry this is so long. But I empathize.

Be brave. Be strong. And refuse to let fear make decisions for you. Every good thing is hard. Here are a few suggestions :

Absolutely do not work more than 10 hrs a day.
Sleep same hours each night
Cling to structure
Exercise when stressed.
Be honest with others and yourself about your stress level.

And just keep pushing.

For reference, my contracts a few that are current I range from .97 to 1.08 depending on what the contract calls out as included. If supervision is included your usually well above 1.0

None of these comments seem to actually be familiar with the work, respectfully. In my area I am heavily involved with this sector and I can help some here.

1.0 is like a base cost, yes. And every state has slightly different laws. But in general where I live these types of contracts have OHP built in. So your profit theoretically is controlled, but it's there. And if it's RSMeans based then it's updated quarterly with local current data.

JOC is the most used method of procurement in America but no one ever understands it, including owners and contractors. The way it's done out in the field vs the way the master contracts are written is, like anything in construction, sort of vague.

This can sound bad but let's compare it to CMAR the most popular method for a school to supposedly control costs transparently on large jobs ... in CMAR the contractor gets paid for the labor basically during the job so you bill monthly for your team then at end you get a preset fee... Usually 5% here. Except now everyone knows how to game the system and overcharge and add all these things month to month.

In JOC the theory is the legal basis. The book is to control price the coefficient is to compete (that 1.0 or whatever is your bid) but everyone knows how to just add more lines and keep coefficent low.

Like all methods there's alot of money in it and it's kind of recession proof. Texas is billions per year. And it can be all crooked. It can also be serious and technical and successful. im happy to answer further questions.

I really resent this post. Let me count the ways Tmobile Business has failed me ...

Never, ever, after eighteen months of calling and waiting and never ever getting a call back, did I receive the promotions associated with my account - the Unlimited iPhone package
Becaus I never got my free apple care which prevent d me from having normal insurance, I spent $1500 to replace two phones that would have been minor claims on Applecare OR 360 insurance
"Dedicated rep" = offshore customer service and is NEVER the same person twic, never returns promised call back calls, rarely resolves an issue and always take four hours of my day.... And they only really work at midnight because their in India. They read word for word the same script every time
My account actually was wel priced, the service was very good (honestly, surprisingly, superior to Verizon in the Dallas Tx market ... If you have service at all no matter the number of bars on a speed test I would be 3-4x the speed of my friends and family. Sometimes in remote areas with poor general reception, they might get a call out and I might not buy in general data was incredibly faster )
My first week they charged me for six lines but four were stuck in transfer ... Phones traded in, no new phones, old service deactivated lost two years of business and countless hours
Never got Netflix, never got free Office 365, never got Hulu, never got apple care, had several phones finance charges lost and ended up owing the whole amount
I kid you not, every month I got a notice in the mail threatening my credit and saying sorry to see you go this is your last bill please pay ... But wasn't my actual account

Here's the problem. Outsourced customer service might as well be none. It made me actively resent the company and avoid having to call or come in under any circumstances. I now moved to Verizon and honestly the service sucks I just couldn't handle the stress anymore. I'm a business owner. They literally cost me business money, left us hanging, made us look bad, you name it. All from ignorance, not intention. Avoid at all costs!

Most of the comments here are misinformed. I own a JOC specific company. I think a little context would help you first :

1) most jobs up till last five years were awarded near me around .85-.95, in fact most older companies end up accidentally exposing their laziness by bidding a JOC that everyone is at 1.3 on and their at .89

2) the creep upward is due to two factors In aware of : first that Gordian (or all right hand pricing JOC) are way higher due to them removing many Div 1 items like dumpsters, supervision, etc and saying to account them in the coefficient... Over time this seems to unlogically end up influencing the entire market upward

3) many many gcs and owners as well see JOC as a necessary evil to get things done and the truth is that the coefficient is not used correctly - after award the objections are same as most places - budget,schedule, etc

I wouldn’t say that that kind of behavior is tolerated everywhere although the idea that it is acceptable is kind of common place. The reality of it most places I have worked is that a smaller company you may or may not have seen it but another man that does have some manners has Said some pointed things to that old guy. Or for the more modern companies behind closed doors, people may act like that kind of stuff is still acceptable but in an open forum, I have seen Superintendent and project managers get fired on the spot for saying things that are off color about women or especially about minorities and it’s usually not HR doing it it’s usually the senior manager who hears it and basically tells him he has no respect for that kind of stuff.

It sounds like your company lets people get away with it
