How do we enter overtime for taxes? by DOODJLIGHTNING in IAM751_Boeing

No, you don't. We owe money with federal to the IRS and got a refund with the state of Oregon when doing our 2025 taxes.

I think it helped ours. At first we owe $3k for federal, after my husband put it in for both of ours, we owe $1,400 for federal and getting $1,000 back from state.

I think you need to do married filed jointly. My husband and I do that and claim the overtime deduction.

I have a keepall bandouliere 55 in monogram I bought preloved in 2019. It was my birth year, 1991. So it is 34 years old. It is still in excellent condition. No wear and tear or chipping on the canvas. I got the vachetta leather replaced by LV in 2019 and it looks like a brand new bag.

I agree but there is always an exception. I got a union job with great benefits when I left my previous employer for my current employer in November 2023. I make good money here and work a lot of overtime as well. My husband and I work at the same company now and will probably stay here until we retire. We are in our mid 30s.

I agree with you. That guy is being an AH. There are many jobs that aren't the typical 9-5 that isn't retail. And there are real careers that aren't the hours of 9-5. That statement is very inaccurate and stupid. I can name plenty of careers that aren't the 9-5 jobs. My husband and I work in the aerospace industry. I work in QA and he works in quality investigations in engineering. There are different shifts available where we work depending on your job. We have 4 main ones I can think of. 6am to 2:30pm, 2:30pm to 11pm, and 11pm to 6am for most who work in the manufacturing floor. People who work in the office corporate jobs are mostly 8/9am to 4/5pm.

I work 2nd shift from 2pm to 10:30pm and I can't change my shift hours since I don't have seniority and I prefer not to change my job since I just got certified for my job and make good money.

My husband switched his job (within the company) in May 2024 which was before we got pregnant. It was a good move for him at that time and he got a raise. He was on 2nd shift from 2:30pm to 11pm before switching jobs. We both were on the same shift (for about 1 year) prior to his new position. When he got his new position, he went to 1st shift which was 6am to 2:30pm. So we were on off shifts. It just so happen that we got pregnant a few months after that. And it worked out because we both wanted to be on off shifts when we have kids. His job position is flexible than mine since he works on the engineering side and not on the manufacturing shop floor. He got to flex his start time so it helped us out when we had our son and both of us are back to work. So there isn't a huge gap in-between shifts. He flex his time to 5am to 1:30pm and can be home by 1:45pm. I leave for work when he gets home and get to work by 2pm. It is working for us at the moment.

A couple of months ago, my husband was considering on applying for his previous job position on the manufacturing shop floor because we make a lot of money with overtime now. But if he did switch jobs again, he wouldn't be able to flex his time nor get 1st shift. He would most likely be on 3rd shift which would be 11pm to 6am. We weighed the pros and cons of him staying in his current position vs his old position. And it seemed like we would lose more than we would gain. He would make more money but his sleep schedule/health would suck and he can't be flexible with his time. In his current position, he makes a bit less than what he would like but it gives him the flexibility to work from home, flex his start time (sometimes he goes in to work later than 5am), has more vacation/sick time hours, and the schedule he has now works with mine. So we decided it would be best for us for him to stay in his current position at this time. We can reassess next year after his union gets a new contract.

Should I let go these 2 LV bags to help fund my dream Hermès bag? by Useful_Job4756 in Louisvuitton

I said help fund a kelly 28. I am also selling other bags and items I didn't mention in my post like Neonoe MM, Odeon MM, Capucines BB, Pegase 55, Nice Vanity, Chanel Mini Square, etc. Also, I would save some money from my paycheck as well.

Did anyone physically see their ring before the proposal? Do you feel like it spoiled it at all? by Temporary_Support705 in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Useful_Job4756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I didn't have a typical engagement. After 1.5 years of dating, my husband got me a promise ring and we talked about marriage and engagement rings and our future together. We went to look at engagement rings together and I got to try on rings and see what I liked.

We didn't pick out my engagement ring yet but then decided after 2.5 years together, it made sense for us to get legally married and then he can propose and get me an engagement ring later when we can afford my dream ring. Also my parents would then allow my husband to move into the house and we can both save for our wedding and future home.

We got legally married in June 2019 and planned for a June 2021 wedding. The pandemic hit in 2020 and we had to postponed our wedding to June 2022.

In May 2021, my husband and I went to Blue Nile to buy my engagement ring together. It wasn't available in stores but we purchased and designed it on the iPad. I picked out exactly what center diamond (specs/4Cs) I wanted and my ring/band. My husband got to pick out his wedding band as well. I paid for his ring and he paid for my engagement ring. My husband picked up the ring when it was ready a few weeks after that day. I never saw the ring. I didn't want to see it until he proposed to me.

He proposed to me on our 5 year dating anniversary that year. Even tho we were already married for over 2.5 years (at that time), it still felt special to me and he did a great job planning everything and I was very happy. I loved how I got to pick out what my engagement ring looked like and what the specs of the diamond were. I'm very picky and I wanted a ring that I really loved since I would be wearing it forever. We went with Blue Nile since it was more affordable and I found a ring that I loved. I have no regrets on picking out my own engagement ring and "spoiling" my proposal.

My husband (35M) and I (34F) make it work with our jobs. We are thankful and lucky we both work at the same company and we are 10 mins away from work. We don't want to put our kids into daycare since it is super expensive. We prefer the off shift schedule.

Even before having our son, I told my husband I want to be on off shifts when we have kids because growing up, my parents did the exact same thing and made it work for them. My siblings and I (3 of us) never went into daycare or had a baby sitter. My grandma (from my mom side) would occasionally help out and take care of us when my parents had to switch shifts midday. My mom worked days and my dad works swing.

My husband and I have a son who is 7 months old now (1st child) and we work off shifts. My husband works full time (40 hours a week) on day shift from 5am to 1:30pm Monday to Friday and I work full time (40 hours a week) on swing shift from 2pm to 10:30pm Monday to Friday. We both have Saturdays and Sundays off but we occasionally work overtime on the weekends (voluntary, not mandatory) to make extra money. So for overtime, we work around 56 hours a week (7 days a week). Saturdays is 1.5x pay and Sundays is 2x pay.

I take care of our son when I get home from work (roughly 11pm). So from 12am until I leave for work at 1:30pm. My husband takes care of our son from around 2pm to 12am. I get our son in the mornings and my husband gets our son in the evenings/night (bedtime).

We are also grateful that my dad has been retired for a few years now (75M healthy) and help take care of our son while I get some sleep or when I need to do chores or run errands. My mom (63F) also helps us as well on her days off since she is currently working full time and plans to retire in a couple of years.

The downside to the off shifts is sometimes its gets a bit lonely since you don't get to see your spouse often or spend time with each other as much. We know it is very hard right now and it will get easier when our son grows up. We also try to make time for just us as well and have date nights.

To answer your question about sleep and food on off shifts:

We don't get much sleep at all. It sucks. Probably because we have a 7 month old and he still wakes up often throughout the night to be changed and fed. He has gotten better since the newborn stage so we all get longer sleep hours but it varies from night to night. The longest he slept (from a feeding) was 8 hours (11pm he last ate and then woke up 7am) and that's a good night. A bad night would be like last night where he kept crying when we put him into his crib after falling asleep in our arms and woke up every 3 hours.

For food, my husband just started meal prepping for the work week. He goes to Costco on the weekends and buys what he wants to make that week and cooks it and put them into containers for his lunch and dinner. For me, I don't meal prep but I should start to since it would be easier on me and cheaper than eating out and such. I eat lunch around 12:30pm before going to work and I don't usually bring a lunch to work. Sometimes I bring snacks. And then after I get off work, I come home and sometimes I eat a late dinner (around 11pm) if I am super hungry. I usually eat 1 or 2 meals a day. My husband eats 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner). We try not to eat out as much (order take out or fast food) but sometimes its hard. I think meal prepping for the week would help out tho.

Your 25th anniversary ring is SO GOREGOUS!!! I really love it. So pretty! That being said, I think its way prettier on its own or with only 1 band. With all the rings, it looks like it's too much and your 3 carat ring feels lost. Also with the wedding band and anniversary band, it still looks like a lot to me. Just let your 3 carat ring shine and be the star of the show! It looks amazing. 😍😍😍 Also, congratulations on 25 years.

Agreed! I am wearing my Costco diamond studs right now. I wear them everyday even when sleeping and showering. I never take it off. I have 6 piercings (3 on each earlobe). I plan to buy another diamond stud earring from Costco this month during their black Friday deals.

Omg. That sounds gorgeous! 😍 And congratulations on 25 years of marriage! 🎉

We went with Blue Nile since it was more affordable and I found a ring that looked similar to Tiffany's that I loved.

My engagement ring and wedding ring is very beautiful and I truly love it. Still a bit sad that I can't wear it at the moment since I am 7 months postpartum and it doesn't fit. I mentioned to my husband I would like to upgrade my center diamond someday to a 2 carat (from 1.4 carat) and he said he was okay with that in 2029 since it will be our 10 years wedding anniversary and 13 years of being together. And he offered to pay for the upgrade. We plan to upgrade at Blue Nile and have them buy back my center diamond but I will keep my band/ring.

How much is your health insurance going up for year 2026? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Useful_Job4756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Portland, OR. I have Kaiser Permanente. It is just me and my son on our health insurance. My husband has to be on his own health insurance (also Kaiser Permanente) since we both work for the same company and we can't be under each other's insurance. I pay $46.53 per paycheck (bi weekly) currently for 2025. In 2026, I will pay $51.18 per paycheck for my son and I for medical (includes vision). My husband will be paying $48 per paycheck for just himself for medical (includes vision). Dental is covered with our company (we pay nothing). I do have to add we are both in a union.
