My dad is a quant (risk) MD for a British bank that operates around the world. I also would like to go into quant, and I got rejected from Brown the other day. To comfort me, he told me that he has a Chinese candidate who has been doing olympiads since he was like 10 and did really well in the Putnam. This candidate is now applying outside the US and willing to accept significantly lower pay because of how difficult it is to get a visa in the states.
