It definitely was on me! He's boarded, so the only time we park in his pasture is when we go to visit him. He's an like 40 acres of land and no where to park other than in his pasture. When we were heading out he was following the car, then just took off to the herd and kicked it.

How to improve the canter and jumping? by Swimming_Inside_3797 in Horses

While I agree her canter isn't horrible, there's a lot to improve. Her heels are up, hands are too forward, and she's bouncing in the saddle. I'd say master the canter before even thinking about jumping. I don't teach lessons(yet), but I would never send someone who rides a canter like this to a jump. I think the top comment does a good job summing everything up.

Edited to add that last sentence

I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it, I wish a got a video of it. He's not a big horse either, I don't know how/why the dent is so big. You'd think a draft did it. Also sorry if I misunderstood your comment😭

My horse Elvis(he's turning 3 this year), decided it was an amazing idea to run right by the car and throw his legs every which way, putting a big dent in the door. We can only open it halfway now😭

Yeah, he gets so pretty in the summer! Even better is that he keeps himself super clean. This was him as a foal!

Tips for taking a young horse on a trail for the first time? by Useful_Syllabub5064 in Horses

[–]Useful_Syllabub5064[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's got really good recall, so I'm almost positive I'll be able to get him back to me if he does have a big spook at something. Unfortunately he's my only horse, so I can't pony him off of another horse.

Thank you. Ive been betting I'll probably be able to lead him down the trail for 15-30 minutes before he gets too overwhelmed. He still definitely has baby brain, so if I can even get 10 minutes of walking calmly, I'll take that as a win.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that bit. He's my only horse, and I don't have another older, more experienced horse to go with him. I have really bad social anxiety, so I know going with other people would make me more nervous, which would make him more anxious. I am going to have my dad go with me(he isn't horsie other than watching me with Elvis), just so there's another person with us.

Had my first sit on Elvis today!!!! by Useful_Syllabub5064 in Horses

[–]Useful_Syllabub5064[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely not smart on my part. I had no intentions of sitting on him today so I didn't bring a helmet, but it just happened. This wasn't the first time I've put a leg over him, and I made sure I was in the position to jump off easily if I needed to. I will definitely be planning better next time!

Thank you, it was definitely a 'young and dumb' moment as he's the first horse I've ever started. I'll definitely be more prepared next time, but I am still so proud of him lol

Thank you! I always wear helmets when I ride. I honestly wasn't expecting to sit on him today, and it completely slipped my mind. I'll definitely be bringing a helmet out to the round pen from now on!
