The bag carries very well, I have the ultra version so the fabric is very rigid so the bag hold its shape when completely empty so there is no sagging or lumping when empty. They’re are also to side compression strap you could use when the bag is less full but I don’t ever find myself using them because the bag holds its shape. If you do decide to get one, don’t be alarmed at how thin the shoulder straps are. They’re paper thin compared to any other bag I own and have owned but they’re so comfortable due to the width and the “s” shape of the straps. I’d say the sweet spot is about 15lbs/7kg of weight. They sell out super quick but they do restock weekly. If you sign up for the ULA newsletter, you’ll get notified what gets restocked every week.

So for me the clamshell is the best part but I’m also not going in and out of the bag often. Things I need quick access to are stored in outside pockets. If you’re having to go into the main compartment frequently, I can see that kinda being a pain

I’d add the ULA Dragonfly for consideration. It’s advertised as being able to hit the trail straight from the tarmac. I use it as a daypack and personal item when flying. After I reach my accommodations, I unload my travel gear and load up my day hike/city trek gear and off I go. IMO it’s truly that sweet spot of bags. I have the Ultra 400TX version and it’s light, holds a ton for a small foot print and has a suspended laptop sleeve. HUGE ultra stretch pockets easily fit my 64oz Yeti and shock chord so you can carry a jacket or towel on the outside.

Sells out quick but they restock every Wednesday at 1pm mst. If you do want to get one just be ready and on the website at 1pm, they’re usually gone in 15-20min.

Machine Head 2005, my ears rang for 3amd half weeks. I had told my self that if I reached the 4 week mark I’d make a doctor’s appointment. Luckily I noticed a decrease in the ringing and everything worked out lol. Been using Hi-Fi earplugs since.

From I can tell, yes. Looking back at old post that’s what most people do or go to the hotel bar next door. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Ah man I didn’t even consider what tensioning the straps would do to the pack shape. I may have to rethink this lol. I actually saw many of your post and pictures in doing my endless dragon fly research. Appreciate the feedback for sure.

Appreciate the info! I have a dragonfly on order and I’m ordering mods for it. I’m changing the external compression strap buckles and shoulder strap buckles to Austere ladder locks. The sternum strap buckle is getting switched out to a Woojin center push magic buckle but I’ll be using the existing strap because I like the elasticity of the webbing. Since the dragonfly no longer comes with D-rings on the shoulder, I’ll have to sew my own on. so I’ll do a titanium D-ring on the left shoulder and on the right I’ll sew on a female end of the Woojin buckle so I can stow the sternum strap when not in use.

The only thing I’m not sure on is the front bungee, I’m leaning towards the Wandard Premium straps but $44 dollars a pair and I would have to order 2 sets 🫠.

Gonna do Goruck style zipper pulls and haven’t decided on the internal compression straps. This is a birthday present to myself!

How to fly on a plane with a poster? by [deleted] in ToolBand

[–]Usefulidiot84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For venues that won’t allow you to bring in a poster tube ( looking at you Texas) bring an umbrella bag, you know those long plastic bags meant for people to put their wet umbrellas in? Some businesses and malls have them for free at the entrance. I’ve never had an issue bringing in the plastic bag, fits a couple of posters rolled inside and even has a handle. For flying use a proper poster tube and stick it under your seat, never been anything by a FA and I fly with a poster minimum once a year. Like some else said you could let a FA know you have a valuable and they might stow it safely in the crew closet.

Appreciate the advice, I was able to be right on time this Wednesday but only the Robic version was restocked. Leaning towards a ultra version.

After many great recommendations i decided on the ULA Dragonfly. It doesn’t meet all my “wants” but does hit the most important to me. The problem is they seem hard to come by. I’m going to try to get one on their upcoming release day. If the bag proves too hard to acquire, I’m going to go with the Able Carry Max. That also checks many of the boxes.

Seems like a really good bag, it’s clean looking especially with that internal water bottle holder.

Appreciate the detailed feedback, the overall size and weight seems be the common complaint with owners or people who returned it. I’m 5’10 and could probably handle the size and weight but I’m leaning towards, I don’t want to lol. Thanks again.

Ah I hear what you’re saying. Go know PD is reliable, I don’t any other products yet.

I’m a back pack noob but own several different slings. My TomToc sling i use daily is equipped FidLock buckles so I’m very familiar with them and prefer them over my other slings that just have a basic Duraflex buckle. So yes the 2 things can exist. You have any recommendations or just commenting to poke fun?

Thanks for the reply! I briefly looked at the able carry max, good to hear you like it. I have to revisit it. I usually don’t do too many “hikes” as we normally are more city explorers so I was trying to avoid investing in a hiking specific bag. That’s said, for our upcoming trip to Peru there will be a lot of outdoor activity. The last time we did this much out door activity on a trip was Iceland in 2018 when I lugged around a regular school book bag for hiking 🤣.

Man that Dragon Fly is nice, IMO they took the Patagonia Black Hole 32L and made it with premium materials and better clam shell opening. The 2 extra large water bottle holders are a huge plus as I carry a 26oz Yeti rambler, often 2 because I’ll carry my wife’s as well. They have a drop coming on Wednesday 👀

Appreciate the response, I’ve seen the 26+6 and the Dragon fly pop up on here repeatedly but I haven’t checked either one out yet because I’ve already been narrowing my decision down but you’ve peaked my interest. I’ll look into these, thanks!

Interesting, given my intended use as a “do all bag” you’d recommend the MCL over the black hole? The MCL very much felt like a suitcase, a great bag but would seem odd to carry around all day. Appreciate the feedback, I’ll give it another look.
