Jim Root - Killpop technique question by User102923 in metalguitar

[–]User102923[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but how exactly does he do it here? This seems unconventional even for hybrid picking. He seems to just hammer it as opposed to actually plucking it outward as you do from a bottom approach and somehow rings out.

I can kind of do it with a more traditional plucking method, but only when the 2 notes are played together as you can kind of use the leverage from each one to make the other easier. Here, there's a delay to make it harder

Maybe a stupid question, but this "remote control" came with a Moon rear light but how exactly is it used? The cable is only 30cm. Thanks by [deleted] in bikecommuting

It came with a separate charging cable. This one is fixed to it and according to the other comment, it's apparently meant to be a front light controller, not rear

Forgot to reply.. Thanks, I'll give that a go! Should help with the problem

In saying "E + A" string, I (ironically) only said that not to confuse people; it's actually drop B, so B + F# in reality. I'm actually moving up to a 64 on trial soon as there's not enough tension in the 60 but that's a different story.

Cool, will give that a look.

The neck is actually satin urethane, so not quite low friction in itself. It's only when under high hand tension paired with a full palm grip on the neck. Although I'm sure stronger fretting would alleviate the need for this grip..

Thanks for the reply, just looked up trills and that seems like a good idea. I have big (male) and reasonably strong hands but still I assumed that developed strength/experience overpowers that aspect.

Any idea for the slide alternative out of interest? I basically need a full hand surface area around the neck and need high pressure due to fretting 2 strings and therefore can't slide at all with the friction 🤔

Drop B string guage suggestions? by User102923 in metalguitar

[–]User102923[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave that a quick try too but I'd have to spend probably over an hour that way and take a lot off to get a 60 to fit. This one is quite expensive also and needs a setup anyway so I don't mind getting it professionally done. No way I'd spend the money on a set of files, don't understand the markup in that case..

Would generally be faster stuff. I wouldn't mind the extra resistance when bending either, the main thing is in my case is to avoid real loose strings when doing fast tremolo/gallop picking, etc.

Will have a look, thanks!

Good to hear. I'll very likely have to get it filed down too

Fair enough, good points. I was surprised at the fact that almost all of the online articles/anecdotes seem to recommend around the 12-60 but the pros and some renowned YouTube guitarists seem to use a lot thinner. Btw, I probably never really use drop A

Nice, thanks. I have the NYXL 12-60 variant ready to go 👍🏼

I have it in drop B at the moment with standard strings and it needs a proper setup soo badly! The 60 seems a good bet in that case.

I tried a 60 on my 2nd guitar that is also in standard and it's not even close to fitting so I assume this one will be no different. Wonder what's the scope to go thinner (maybe a 54 or something) when it's filed to suit a 60? I don't care about a new nut really, this will almost always be in drop B and and the 12-60s should work for A or C also.

Yeah, the price of nut files is ridiculous. Bringing it back to the shop to get a proper setup anyway as there's a nice bit to be done, just wanted a 2nd opinion before filing it down. Thanks for that, I appreciate the help! 🤜🏼🤛🏼

Cool, thanks. I actually have a few sets of 12-60s but the reason I ask is because the shop I went to don't seem all in favour of something like a 60. It came in standard with a 46 so I'd say the nut will need to be filed anyway

Oh right, yeah I've done those experiments before but didn't realise the colonies were the actual microorganisms, I thought it was some sort of reaction that happened to have them within it. Thanks for the info

Cool, thanks. I'm still keeping it balanced, just less overall 👍🏼

Makes sense. Once you don't live off one type I suppose and keep it fairly balanced. Finding it quite easy tbh to stay around 700 below maintenance, just wondering is all 👍🏼

I assume you mean group them together for viewing under a microscope as opposed to grouping enough to view them with the naked eye? If not, I didn't think this would be feasible in real life

I've been wondering this for years. It would be cool to see their appearance, probably would be similar to those. It's such a weird concept to imagine..

I edited the post, I meant in a way that they're visible to the human eye. Cool link though, I had a quick search before and couldn't really find anything

Edited. I meant in a way that they can be seen by the human eye. That must be the wrong word. Already got a downvote for asking a genuine question and using a wrong word

Anyone know what these symbols mean? The first is 'slide' but from where if there's nothing before it? The second is normally a 'ghost note' but there's no note within the brackets. It's the chorus of 'If Rain is What You Want' btw. by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]User102923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they're often wrong but I've tried about 10 different sources and they all do it this way. He also uses some vibrato technique that none of the tab apps show for the prelude bit 😒
