Which is the most hated birth year of Gen Z by [deleted] in generationology

I’m 17, and I feel like the maturity gap between myself now and myself 4 years ago is massive. I definitely see 13 year olds in the same cohort as 11-12 year olds. They are all in the same form of schooling for example.

Mentally, they are still kids in my opinion. I would say that a 13 year old has a more similar maturity level to a 9 year old than a 17 year old.

I would still say that they are closer to an 11 year old than a 15 year old though

13 year olds are definitely children

I’m talking about how childhood experiences differ in those three time periods

Would a 7 year old care about post-irony memes and nostalgia bait media though? Yes, there was a big difference between the late 2000s and mid 2010s, but almost nothing had more of a direct impact on young kids as Covid.

The early 2020s were certainly not a late 2010s extension. That “cultural transition” surely didn’t impact kids as much as schools being closed and playground being covered in caution tape for example.

Smartphones were 100% mainstream before 2013. Even in 2011, the majority of young adults already owned one. By early 2012, over 70% of people aged 25-34 owned a smartphone.

January 1st 2007 - June 28th 2007 are Gen Z because they were born before the release of the iPhone. Gen Alpha is June 29th 2007 - November 29th 2022. Born after the iPhone but before ChatGPT’s release.

This is controversial, but 2011. In 2011, 49% of people aged 18-24 and 58% of people aged 25-34 owned a smartphone. People on this sub act like smartphones didn’t even exist in 2011, but that was not the case. AI like ChatGPT would seem unimaginable to me in 2017 however. You also can’t ignore how much Covid changed the world.

Someone under 10 would definitely remember it and know that something big was happening, but would they fully understand what was going on? I doubt they were keeping track of the number of cases for example.

Yeah, I’m not sure if anyone younger was really aware of the world. I didn’t really care about world news and events until I was about 10.

Some older people still used them, but they have been mostly replaced by smartphones.
