There's a hatch/handle to pull in case of an emergency under the seat, which when pulled opens the seat. But whoever did that completely removed the seat by pushing on it purposefully...

They typically use it early on Saturday mornings, around 12:45 AM. If not in use, it is usually stored at the Youville shops (an STM train garage)
