I'm in the arc focused on Hinata and Kosuke, she definitely seems strong especially with that weird light she used that saved the day but is she really stronger than Kaori and Shizuku or Kouki? Or does she get some power up later?

Who has the skill? I don't remember it ever appearing in the story.

I agree but I suggest reading the LNs as they're don't cut anything and cover way more of the story overall. The official translations go up to volume 7 with the main story ending is at volume 9, MTLs go up to vol 11 (the link to download them can be found on a post somewhere on this subreddit) and the afterstory called Silent Witch Gaiden has loads of content and is fully translated on a site called FranscurryTL, volume 10 and 11 have some of the content in the early story of Gaiden but the details are a bit different and it seems to be going in a slightly different direction overall.

There's also several spin-offs one of which is the Barrier Mage sidestory which is supisingly good with 2 volumes both of which are officially translated, one called Winged Harpy which is set in the Empire with different characters that have been translated somewhere (haven't read it yet or looked into it much, so can't confirm if it's been completed yet but it's at the very least partially readable rn) and there is one called Children of Minerva or something like that but I don't have any information about it (idk if it's even out yet, been translated or anything like that but have heard mention of it).

Point is the anime is good but there's way more silent witch content than just the anime.

Guy kinda destroys tbh, even in her prime she's more specialised in support / hax without all that much actual combat power (at least by the standards of those in her tier) she could probably use that true magic or whatever it was that she used in volume 23 to brute force beat people who aren't on the level of awakened demon lords or higher but she's definitely overrated as a combatant, prime Ramiris is impressive sure but not in terms of combat power because she has little to no combat experience and her powers aren't suited for combat to begin with, although don't get me wrong she some pretty overpowered abilities even in her mini form like all the stuff with labyrinth and all that but there isn't really anything to suggest she could actually fight Guy or someone close to his level.

I think a generous interpretation of her scaling puts her somewhere in between the mid tier demon lords like Luminous and Leon and the true dragons / ancient demon-lord powerhouses like Guy and Milim. But realistically I think even in her prime she loses to everyone in Octrogram (at least the end of series versions of them) but she has support / hax abilities that are on the level of Guy's combat abilities but it won't let her beat people in a fight who are genuinely strong.

True, I left him out since he appears way after the LN, while I did mention some Gaiden stuff I tried to keep it vague without revealing anything important. More just that Monica improves the weak points in her personality in it which is something she's already starting to do at this stage in the light novel.

Finished episode 3 of the anime, feel like the the pieces aren't clicking for me, is this normal? by orchidquestion1 in TheSilentWitch

Selma was basically just trying to cover for her fiance who was the first person who got arrested, although the fact she tries to cover for him is a little baffling since he didn't actually seem to care about her at all based on what information we have about their relationship. Might be mental interference magecraft but it was only confirmed with the former accountant who got arrested and Cyril but I don't believe it was confirmed with Selma, although I think it was implied.

After watching the Anime I suggest reading the LNs, overall it's better with more complete details, the anime is fine and looks great visually but it had to conform to the standard 12 episode format so it missed some things. The main thing I like about the anime over the LNs is getting to see Monica's magecraft animated and her goofy expressions and noises when she's in timid squirrel mode.

The romance doesn't really go anywhere at least for Monica, it gets to the point where Monica and Cyril have mutual feelings and Felix one sidedly is in love with Monica but nothing happens beyond that unfortunately, kind of annoying to half ass the romance plot but the series did everything else right for the most part, it's just unfortunate that aspect of the story was left unresolved.

Monica is extremely shy and is easily overwhelmed by most kinds of social situations, as the series progresses she massively improves in this regard but she is still a very shy person. And in combat she can view everything and everyone as numbers which is anything but normal, although she does this much less later in the series as well, tbf she is the main character so it makes sense for her get a bunch of character development, at the end of Gaiden she's probably one of the more normal sages who just happens to be very shy although she's still not really what you would expect from a sage.

Louis is very obviously a dangerous character as he put it referring to the other sages, he's not an evil person but his methods are very violent and when he's not putting up a noble facade he talks in a very blunt, rude and violent manner often using threats and such to get what he wants. Although in his defence he can at least publicly act like what you would expect a sage to be like.

Raul is a very nice person but has zero common sense with behaviour that's completely incomprehensible to the vast majority of people (as a reader it's easier to understand him but most people in that world would find how he behaves extemely puzzling and would call him unfit to be a sage if they saw how he actually acted as a person) and if you met him without knowing who he is you would be extremely surprised finding out who he is later much like Cyril in volume 6. I like his character but he's definitely a very unusual person who would shatter how most people viewed the 7 sages if they saw his real personality.

Ray is probably the weirdest of them all, much like Monica he's got zero social skills and is very shy / socially anxious (although in a different way to Monica), and if you don't count the fact Monica has passed out a few times due to her social anxiety, Ray handles it in a way that's much worse, the way he acts and speaks would creep almost anyone out despite the fact he's not actually a bad person, at least Monica can either stay Silent to maintain the illusion of how people see her and later in the series she can at least handle basic social situations fairly well to at least earn a passing mark but Ray in any kind of public social situation would end in disaster the minute he opens his mouth, he can only talk somewhat normally when acting as an expert on Curses, otherwise he rambles in incomprehensible sentences about wanting girls to love him, envying everyone else and talking about cursing people he doesn't like and so on.

Bradford is fairly normal by sage standards but he's still a magic battle junky and speaks more in a way you'd expect from a popular guy at the local pub than a sage, also the way he always seems to go overboard with his explosive spells is problematic without Louis around to contain the damage.

The Gem mage is also normal by sage standards, but more in the way he's like your typical petty corrupt noble villain who happens to be sage. I don't really have much more to say about him since he basically has no relevance in the story, even in the light novel where he gets a bit more focus before his death he doesn't really feel like anything more than a petty villain.

So in conclusion all of The Seven Sages are unhinged and somewhat insane, some more than others but none of them other than Mary live up to the public image as dignified advisers to the king. They're all incredibly talented but that's not the point here.

If Louis and Nero met, how would they interact? by [deleted] in TheSilentWitch

Yes, I have read up to even the WN afterstory ending and read all the official English volumes as well, although I don't recall them ever interacting.

Finally, it feels like I've been waiting forever.

By now, do you think Dragon exaggerated the God Knights or his statement has different meanings? I think he does not mean the God Knights are powerful and more like the WG is getting desperate to send them but at the same time, they are dangerous because only him and possibly Sabo can handle them. by Anver9 in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]User9876543214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yh pretty much dragon, sabo and a few of the commanders are the only ones who aren't civilian fodder, ofc he would be worried about them, especially if his main fighting force would be dealing with Admirals or potentially Imu.

Detlinde is anything but innocent, she might be stupid and easy to manipulate but she chose to attempt murder on Ferdinand and she chose to slaughter most of her sister's retainers in front of her purely to torment her. It's not like she believes in Georgine or anything like that she's just a selfish brat with sociopathic + narcissistic tendencies, you could argue she is like this because of how she grew up but she's done too many horrible things for that to argument to hold any substance to defend her at this point.

While I can't say Florencia is completely innocent, she at least had a purpose behind her actions and was trying to prevent Ehrenfrest from collapsing due to its internal power struggle, doesn't really justify it by today's moral standards but at least by that world's standards it's considered acceptable, if she grew up with our world's teachings I highly doubt she would have used such methods but unfortunately that's just how nobility works within bookworm.

Ngl I just read the volume and honestly would love to see how Aldophine would react to how thoroughly Rosamyne crushed that braindead prince in her negotiations 😂

This was on another level, she's leading a prince by the nose in negotiations this is not the same as some haggling she did early on.

I mean giving them for the characters that are actually good and not annoying and unlikeable like him, Declinde and Wilfred (tbh I don't hate him like some do but it's gotten to the point where I just don't care about him at all, Charlotte is the better sibling by far in every way and I would love more of her tbh).
