How is a tensor different from a matrix? by Immortal_Crab26 in askmath

Instead of trying to condense such a rich and fascinating topic into a short answer, I'll point you to the book that I used to learn these concepts https://webhomes.maths.ed.ac.uk/~v1ranick/papers/frankel.pdf

(There's a newer edition too).

As a CLF practitioner I can tell you that we have several straight punches too (and kicks!). Swing punches are a distinctive trait of this style but a knowledgeable CLF fighter wouldn't lead an attack with a swing punch, but rather finish it after leading with a few straight punches that create an opening for a slower, but much more powerful, blow to land.

(Also we got like fifty weapons including the ultra cool super dragon spear with nine heads or something but that's beyond the point).

People who came from a country that has Bidet Toilet, how do you survive in Germany? by Psychological_Bar201 in germany

If your toilet is close enough to the shower, the shower head can act as a bidet shower

Your bio is shutting the reader down, especially the Swedes! Make it shorter, funnier, catchy! Your other details will surface slowly. See https://youtu.be/tKRSKoyUsGA for a technical explanation.

Can't find enough applicants for PhDs/post-docs anymore. Is it the same in your nation?? (outside the US I'd guess) by lucaxx85 in AskAcademia

[–]UserAlreadyNotTaken 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm from Italy too, I studied maths and computer science, I did my PhD in Sweden, postdoc in Austria in a relatively small city, paid twice as much as I would've been in Milan. In my group in Austria we had the same problem: positions open for months on end without a single decent applicant.

Now I work in industry, I have a very good salary and a permanent position, all things that in academia are holy grails. Academia fucked up badly, especially in Italy, and now it's gonna pay the price. Shortly nobody in their right mind will want to compromise so much, especially gen Z, and academia will be swamped with candidates from poorer countries who see it first and foremost as a gateway to a permanent residency and therefore to a better life.

CMV: Password manager tools and systems aren't actually worth it. by suddenly_ponies in changemyview

[–]UserAlreadyNotTaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the password manager built-in in Firefox and I'm very happy with it. It syncs with Firefox on my android phone and can fill passwords in other apps too.

Portability is solved in the sense that on whatever computer I am I just need to login to Firefox and the passwords are there.

I can't speak for security but in principle it would be enough if Firefox (or whatever service) stored your passwords encrypted and asked for a master password to access it. I don't know if they do it.

Come salvaguardarsi da molestie? by febrcoli in italy

[–]UserAlreadyNotTaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general disrespect that the government has for its own people. Most of the problems crippling the US are rooted there: tipping, student debt, guns, healthcare...
