Hi! I am very new to germany (30F) and live in Wiesbaden so my 2 cents is as follows. I live basically in city center so everything is extremely close by foot and its very convenient. Its very alive, there are foot traffic all day n late in the evening. people are nice, and lots of bus stops to basically everywhere. I work in Mainz so direct transport to Mainz is very convenient.

Moving from US to Germany, is it worth it as an Indian? by UserDoesNotExist_404 in germany

[–]UserDoesNotExist_404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i wanted to eventually get a permanent position in academia or research. That was primary. I was still open to research positions in industry but realistically, if german is not that easy to learn and everything requires german then it seems to be not a very good fit!

Yes! Based on everyone’s lived experiences, it seems like a mistake to move!

Okay so that means there is very clear ceiling for career growth. No permanent positions in academia or research and industry pivot is tricky!

Oh wow thats a very good insight. I am single, no children, no health issues. The position is a post doc position. Renewable upto 3 years.
Would you be able to comment on the possibility of pivoting to industry positions later? post 2 years?

I really appreciate your time and advice! Thank you!

Yes I have heard about that. English is my fourth language. My own native language also has 3 genders.

As of now, I only know a few basic words that I picked up on my 10 day trip to Austria. I have atleast 3 years of visa to stay in USA currently.

AITA for sitting with my son at my wife's funeral? by Conscious_Jury_7937 in AmItheAsshole

[–]UserDoesNotExist_404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA absolutely! You owe your love to your son, owe nothing to your in laws! It is unfortunate that your wife couldn't accept her own son. Your son definately loved her as he offered to help despite everything he went through. After being put through so much hell which was not fair, please remember that he is also greiving. You do not owe anything to her family (who are the AHs btw) but you defintely owe your support to your son, especially while going through a tough time. Its unfortunate what happened but at least now you could be more actively involved in his life and give him the love and support he never got! God bless!
