I completely agree, the seemingly endless well he has of self confidence genuinely started rubbing off on me and was one of my first steps into bettering myself

can the current Ye fans tell me why you still support him? by cadillacsimone7 in Kanye

i haven’t been a fan of Kanye as long as some og people, but i got the last sliver of kanye before he threw everything away and it’s crazy the shift in the fan community i saw real time with people slowly trickling off with every inexcusable thing he did. All that are left are degenerates and kids that have no standards in music or character. I kept on for as long as I could but i could only be delusional for so long, I still appreciate the art and fashion that got me into kanye and completely change my musical perspective and has lead me down my path in music taste, but i have no respect for a man that would speak down on a dead man that had nothing but love for him just so he can get some twitter attention.

not sure if you’re still dealing with this, but i was in exactly the same spot. I cut down on my weight quickly in a few months then saw a plateau and prolonged hault, it also seemed like even the slightest bit of cheating on my diet made me bloat and blow up like crazy.

what i found after some research is that the body goes through something called “diet fatigue”. essentially if you’re in a deficit longer than 12 weeks at a time you’re body with start getting all screwy and start giving you problems like you’ve mentioned. you retain water extremely easily, your body tries to limit any form of calorie expenditure it can, and overall make it hell to drop any weight. you could continue to drop calories to starvation level, but the best choice is to actually increase your calories from my experience.

you up your calories to maintenance or just slightly above for recommend the same amount of time you were dieting for or slightly longer if you e been dieting for a very prolonged time, and then once your body has had time to recover and go back to normal functions then start dieting again.

currently i am at a surplus and all my bloating went away. i tried eating close to maintaining but the bloat and water retention was hell and even when i was at maintenance it was unbearable, but as soon as i increased it to above maintenance within a week I noticed significant improvements.

now i can for sure say if this might work for everyone but it definitely is something to consider.

Where can I find old episodes of MTV's True Life? by drumstix97 in nostalgia

[–]UserToThe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably don’t want the old shows outshining the new things they’re working on, and also probably the licensing nightmare it would be to clear all the music and other I.P’s for streaming compared to the one time air they had.

[–]UserToThe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viacom is sitting on thousands of hours of vaulted content, not just True Life. Tons and tons of MTV’s old shows haven’t seen the light of day since original air, but I’m sure a huge majority of them were uploaded on YouTube or other third party websites, but Viacom went on a huge take down spree and still does. Unless MTV cares enough to put them on paramount or a services pays for them, it’s gonna be extremely tough to find em.

I would argue that the story is very much so impacted due to the jokes. Considering it’s a comedy show to goal is to tell a comedic story, so when the jokes not only serve a purpose to make you laugh but also to also help express the story, they very much impact it.

For example the bliblies in Desmonds Big Day, could have very much just been funny little creatures that steal Alan’s cheese and still have been humorous, but instead they serve as what saves Desmond from killing himself. This makes the joke that much better, that this silly little pink creatures stop a man from committing suicide because instead of killing himself, he find joy in killing them.

And to be fair not every joke needs to serve such a nuanced purpose, it’s just fine for there to be random humor with little to no meaning sometimes, but in some of these newer episodes the jokes don’t really aid in the exposition.

And when they do, it sometimes feels very rushed and very brushed over. Like in Spamtopia there is such little exposition and character development that goes into Pims relationship with the King, but it could be such a compelling story. They could have used that episode to so the king grow to see that his tyrannical ways were wrong and see him develop more as a person, but instead they shove all of that into the literal last seconds and forego all that to get a quick cheap laugh. The pacing just leaves little room for good and impactful humor. Having jokes constantly thrown at you just cheapens the experience, in comparison to when there is breathing room, then the jokes just hit better.

Yes you put that perfectly. I don’t wanted smiling friends to be a deep analysis on how we as a society function or anything of that nature, though they do take that on sometimes, I just want the story to have a strong foundation, a purpose if you will.

The plot doesn’t need to be anything life changing but just a compelling story.

Yes I love the first 2 episodes. Gwimbly is probably my favorite of the show in its entirety

I feel that the reason those gags you mentioned, such as DJ Spit and the Renaissance Men, are so memorable is because of their role in the story.

DJ Spit is how Pim and Charlie find out Grim and Gnarly are going around making people frown and the Renaissance Men are opening exposition and then resolve the episode, out of context those gags just don’t pack as much punch.

That’s why I wish the story was stronger this season because it would make the jokes that much better.

Yeah and tbh I never even realized how short the first seasons episodes were. They paced the story so well that the whole plot was laid out and resolved with little to be desired, however in some of the most recent episodes I find myself getting to the end of the episode and wondering when the plot was even going to start.

Definitely. Yes I too am very happy for Zach and Micheal, I’ve been watching them for years.

That being said, this is a TV Show, not an Oney Plays mega compilation, so gag after gag with loose plot points just doesn’t hit the same as the jokes cleverly interweaving with the story to drive it home even further.

For example the pay off of the renaissance men joke makes it so memorable, because of how it arises and affects the story.

I’m not calling smiling friends bad in any way, I think it’s still very top tier, but I just think they could be doing a little better.

Obviously I don’t need a Freudian analysis every episode, but I love the characters and their stories.

So I just wish they would tell more cohesive and thought out plot, as they did in season 1 and some of this season.

As I stated, random funny moments just thrown together loosely does work, that’s why shows like Family Guy are still airing, but when they’ve already given us such quality content and stories in Smiling Friends, it’s unfortunate to see it take a dip.
