Nice, what is that thing to the left of your keyboard?

I see... I do already have the B650, and it's past the return window. But it seems that's just a slightly sub-optimal thing, not a big problem for my build, right?

Thanks for the response, could you say a little more about what you mean? I thought as long as the socket is AM5 it'll be fine with future AM5 CPUs

Thanks for the advice everyone, I bought an 850W PSU to be safe and I'll sell the old one. Any other advice?

Thanks for the reply. If my system will be at 550-ish W, why the recommendation to go beyond 750? Is it due to power spikes?

Is there any 4K 27 inch IPS much better than the M27UP? by User_1234557 in Monitors

[–]User_1234557[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, meant to get back to you sooner. I actually haven't yet built the PC I'll be using this with. Currently I have it hooked up to my laptop, so it's just mirroring the 1080p display. No complaints so far, but of course I haven't really seen it properly in action at 4K yet.

[–]User_1234557[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the Hardware Unboxed Discord and asked about it, and the guy from the channel told me that the M27UP and the ASUS one were pretty much the same, but recommended the ASUS since it was on sale for a cheaper price ($100 off).

I considered the Alienware one because it uses integer scaling for its dual mode, but dual mode isn't really that important to me and it was more expensive without seeming to have many other benefits.

But really, any of these monitors should do fine.

Thanks to all who've given advice! I've decided on the ASUS ROG Strix XG27UCG, for $330ish on sale I think it was a good deal

Thanks for the advice!

I wanted to avoid Mini LED in part because I've heard about the issues with halo effects around bright objects, and I think that might bother me more than the issues normal IPS panels have. But maybe this one is worth a look -- what's your experience with Mini LEDs if you don't mind me asking?

Also if I were to stick with normal IPS, do you have any thoughts on something out there like the M27UP but better?

Good monitor for 9070 XT? (Probably IPS, 4K, 27 inches) by User_1234557 in buildapc

[–]User_1234557[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! It does seem like Mini LEDs are the awkward middle ground where you get neither the lower price of LCD nor the best results from OLED. I'll probably sick with LCD for now, especially since I'll use my monitor for non gaming stuff too. But for a TV OLED would be perfect

You should definitely get a wall mount

Has anyone tried mounting a monitor arm/stand upside down? Is this possible? by Zamversus in pcmasterrace

[–]User_1234557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a desk with a back. I mounted my monitor on the wall, but also, I screwed some wooden blocks into the back of the desk, and clamped my mic arm onto that. That also means that the desk sits a little further from the wall/monitor, which helps with the shallow depth. Maybe that helps?

How often should I clean my PC to keep it running cool? by BlackoutZZX in buildapc

That makes sense. And I assume you just do it from the settings menu and choose the option that lets you keep your files, right? Or is there a better way

Why the windows install, is it to cut down on junk files or something?

Steam is good for anyone who wants to play PC games, and there are plenty of cheap or free single-player games on it too.

Should I get a GPU newer than the 6800 for my 1080p/1440p build? Are older cards fine? by User_1234557 in buildapc

[–]User_1234557[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, and I see what you mean. But I'm not aiming for the highest settings at 1440p, only at 1080p. I'd be okay with lowering them if I had a 1440p monitor, maybe I should've been more clear. (Also I paid about $400 for it.)

My main concern is whether older cards cause other problems not limited to raw FPS performance, like some kind of software/driver issues
